I have a couple rattles that get on my nerves, I called the dealer and they told me that rattles are only covered up to 12k miles. Thats weak. How much do dealers charge to fix rattles? Thanks.
I did a research on this a while back. My car has a rattle in the real package tray and a front suspension noise. I take it to the dealer after 2yrs into the warranty. I went to Magnussen Lexus in Fremont where I brought the car and this is the reply they give me. "We would love to work on your rattles but rattles and noises are only cover by the warranty for 12 months, so we do have to charge to diagnose it." I called Lexus USA and they basically told me the same thing.
I then take the car for service in Lexus of Stevens Creek. They told me they will look at it to see they can reproduce the noise. They reproduce the noise and they diagnose it to be worm front struts and control arms. The replace it all under warranty. The car drive better than new. I highly recommend their service.
The botton line is that the 12 month noise and rattle warranty is real and most dealers are strict about that. Some dealers are more considerate and one just have to look for it. Good luck.
Did your rattles happen at mainly low speeds on bumpy roads? When I drive my ES300 over seeminly insignificant bumps, I get a sort of popping sound from what sounds like the strut area. My car is 100K certified and I was about to try and have these fixed by the dealer.
