Question rattles

I had a small rattle coming from the lower pass side under dashboard somewhere. When i took my car in to be serviced yesterday they said that they only cover rattles for 12k miles or 1 year or something like that. Is this true? I have a '99 GS300, i thought it would have been covered under warranty but he said they have to charge me $85 to look at it. $85 is their hourly rate. Does this sound right?

Thanks,
John

No It does not sound right.
Talk to the Service Manager.
If that does not work call the 800 number for Lexus USA and complain.
Bumper to Bumber waranty.
I don't see any 12month crap.

They are supposed to cover "adjustments" during the length of the original warranty. You can check out the coverage and disclaimers of the warranty on the Lexus web site.

Thanks alot guys for all your help. I just got off the phone with a very nice man at that 800 number and he said i shouldnt have had to pay anything. He is going to call the dealer and speak to the service manager and see why they charged me for that. He said they will be able to reimberse me if it turns out that i should not have gotten charged.

Thanks again,
John

Good!

And I hope the service consultant that helped you is reprimanded as well.

Just curious, how much were they trying to charge you?

So what was causing the rattling and do you know the solution?
I'd love to make this a quick do it yourself if possible. Got 69k on the '99 GS3.

I took my 99 GS400 in recently for noise from the sunroof (which they said they did not hear, but it was much better afterwards) and the service folks suggested that there was a rattle coming from the glove box (which I did not hear). They ordered a new glove box and installed it for free. No rattles now (of course I did not hear them before). I think there are also some service bulletins on glove box rattle that I saw on Edmunds.com.

Now if I could make the occasional load cracking sound from the sunroof go away...

According to this thread TSB thread , the Service Bulletin for the moonroof noise is BO004-99 DEC 99 Moonroof - Creak Noise Reduction. Hope this helps.

Eric,

thanks for your post. I did mention to the service advisor that there was a TSB on the sunroof problem, but they "did not hear any rattle" from the sunroof. However when I got the car back, the previous almost constant creaking was reduced to an occasional cracking sound. I'll give it a little more time, then I'll take it back before the warranty is up...
