1. You can go back to the dealership and ask for replacement. I believe that within 2 years, they replace it for free. From 2-4 years, you pay half.
2. Go to Wal-mart and buy their $29.99 (battery group 24-F) EverStart battery. Consumer Reports gave it a very high mark. That's what I have in both my van and GS and I'm happy with it. (They tested 9 samples of each battery from different regions to weed out manufacturing discrepancies. They were also surprised that Optimas did not perform as advertised).

Corey, if I remember, you've got quite a nice system. I'd go with a Optima Yellow Top; do a search on "optima yellow" to get some more good info about 'em.

You can't go wrong with Optima batteries, however, I think the Optima Yellow Top is an overkill... unless you're running a competition system and many, many accesories most of your daily commute. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery which means you have to constantly "juice" the crap out of it for it to cycle efficiently. I recommend the Optima Red Top or an Interstate Mega Tron.

Corey,

Nevermind my last post. Are you running a capacitor with your current setup? Once you go 3X W3 (10's right?) you better go with Dex's recommendations and maybe some type of upgraded alternator from Wagner or something.

Yea! get the yellow top! I had 3-w6s running in my ride, damn it hit hard but you need the power to supply it. They are very good batteries and you can mount them any position.

Yeah go with the yellow top, I got mine for 100 scrips
Oh and depending on how much juice you suck, you might have to get a alternator. I have a Nippon Denso 160 amp, its plenty of juice to run any system.

actually, it's only 2 X 10" W0s, and one 5 ch. amp, so it's not as demanding as other systems on this forum... i do have a car kit installed and used everyday. also, dreamcast is hooked up but not played that often though.

is it a good idea to just run one optima yellow, for starting and everything?

where are optimas available at good prices?

thanks for the responses...

I can get you one for around $ 110.00 plus shipping, but the batteries are shipped form the mainland so you might want to check there first...

itsallgood,

Where did you get an 160amp Nippon Denso Alternator? Did you have to modify anything for provisions? How much? Do you know what is the factory amperage on the factory alternator? I think it was like 95amps or something but need to confirm. Thanks!

Lightbulb Alternator

V - The GS4 alternator is rated at 110 hot working amps. I was considering an upgraded amp until I found out that the cost was almost $500 to rewire a factory one up to 180 amp ( from The Mechanic Man's website )!! Just check the cost of that Denso for comparison & make sure that U really need an upgraded alternator.

MeanGene,

If you stop by in Southern California please look me up. My car is a bit more complicating then it looks... especially with my stand alone computer, aftermarket alarm and monitoring systems... and I also have a sound system (for performance standards it helps put weight in the back). I have thought about using the alternator upgrade from Wagner, Powerhouse Racing, and one Mark Tozer is offering but I think they are making too much money. That's why I'm jumping the gun on NipponDenso alternator if it is plug and play. In regards "to adding on" to the factory alternator... I have asked a couple of stereo shops and alternator shops how much I were to expect from an addition... I could not get close to 180amps.

Yeah, the first two years, the battery is free.

I always go to Pep Boys to buy a battery, never care about the brand and it seems to work fine.

p.s. I have stock system.

my optima yellow top is great, we used to always have battery problems, now even if a light is left on all night it cranks no problem!
