Default Help! Radio won't come on

Hi,

I have a 02 gs430 with factory nav with the Mark Levinson radio. Whenever i press the power button on the radio nothing happens. The display on the nav just say "audio off". I initially was told it was the amp, but after checking the diagnostic screen it says the head unit is bad. The shop manager at the local Lexus dealer said he has never seen a head unit go bad and said it would cost a couple hrs labor for him to check it out. Has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks, Steve

Does it work if you hit the disc,fm or am buttons? Did you check the fuse?

I had a problem with a factory radio not coming on. I gave up on it and went aftermarket. But then again, course it wasnt a navi.
I suggest you go aftermarket than pay the stealership just to diagnose the navi. Sorry I couldnt be much help

Check the connections. The AMP is located in the trunk on the far right side. Take off the mats and you will see it. Try disconnecting the battery if that helps. Do at your own risk. GL.

Do you have a volt meter to check if the amp is getting power and the head unit?

No i don't, but when you check the diagnostic on the nav it says the amp is fine and the problem is the head unit. With that being said, the guy at the lexus dealer said that he couldn't tell me for sure that what the problem was until he spent the time taking the unit out and checking it. Which sound like thats what i need to do. I'm sure if i searched the forum i could find directions to do that.
