Default Is my factory Head Unit Dead? (01 w/ Nav and Mark Levinson)

Hi All, just bought this very clean 01 LS430. It had a few issues that i have found all the fixes to on here, but one left has me stumped.

The radio in the car is non-responsive. Now i know and have already determined that the ML Amp is dead and i am sending it out to be repaired.

My question is, regardless of the amplifier being dead, shouldn't i still see be able to select radio stations on AM and FM on the screen? I get no response on the screen when i press either of the radio buttons, but i do get a no CD or no Tape when i press those buttons. Also when i press the audio button next to the NAV screen it states "audio off". Also, on the radio controls itself, the volume button is illuminated but the tuner **** on the right side is not.

Trying to determine if there are two issues at play here. Amp has been diagnosed dead because fuse blows when amp is plugged in, doesnt blow when amp is unplugged.

Thanks for any help!

I replaced the amp on my 2001 ls430ul and it fixed a lot of strange issues as you mentioned.

I would just wait until you replace the amp and then see if it corrects the problems.

Default 01 Amp

I have an '01 LS430 UL and had one channel of the amp cut out and then back okay for a while etc. It went back to Radio repair 4 times with good bench testing. Finally we found it was a bad fan and there was over heating issues. They gave me a new amp for all my trouble and it played nicely for 2-3 years until last week when the sound level went to medium, none of the radio ***** or buttons on the head or steering wheel functioned. Only the touch screen would work to change channels. I messed around with fuses after which time the radio won't even turn on. "Audio off" I checked all my fuses in all the boxes, reconnected everything on the amp and head unit, but still nothing. Nice car, but the electronics can drive one mad. I wonder if my amp is dead again.

Let me know if you learn anything new.

Can you check to see if your horn still works?

so i got my amp back from repair, and it works, but i still have no audio. Radio still does not work and cd tape do work but no audio coming through speakers. Seems like something in the system is muting the system.

When i have a tape in, i can hear it playing extremely faintly. no volume change with the **** on the screen. I am wondering if the remote tuner module that sits next to the nav unit in the trunk is screwed up. The nav is toast so wouldnt surprise me.

Finally got this sorted out, It ended up being the remote tuner in the trunk had suffered water damage. Replaced it and now everything works great.

Also removed the lexus link, and navigation units from the trunk.

you should order another gasket for the rear passenger taillight...and double them up.

Thats where water is getting into the trunk

Default ML audio

what where the options owners used to replace the ML system?
Do you have to change all speakers that go with the systems ; can you leave the headunit?
If you get an aftermarket unit can you still use the screen?

My 2001, LS when it gets really cold out (under 10 out hit or miss, sometimes), the ML amp wont turn on, The radio works like normal but, no audio.

I just drive the car for about 10 min, pull over, shut the car off and turn it back on 98% of the time that resolves it...
