Hi, I went in today to get a service done on my gs400 and they want 350 for a o2 sensor and 150 to replace. I know I can do this myself but I need to know which one I need to order and where it is located? And any advice and how hard it is? They said its bank 1 sensor 2. I drive a 2000 gs400. Thanks for any help.
All the sensor should be the same except for the length of the wires. Bank 1 sensor 2 is the passenger after the Cat. Double check for yourself by looking up the schematic on the repair manual listed on the sticky at the top of this forum. Check to see if it's the 4 wire sensor on all bank.
The O2 sensor are varying prices and the only difference is the length of the damn wire. They asked for 200 or so for the passenger side and 80 bux or so for the driver side...same sensor... go figure.
if you don't mind trying out a sensor by another company... I posted a link on another thread to get them for 28 bux. Buy other parts as backup and return the expensive one if the cheap one works.
btw the 28 dollar one is plug and play but the wire may not be long enough... just extend the wires.
Were you getting a P0136 code? I believe that is the code for Bank 1 Sensor 2. My Check Engine Light has been coming on for over a year with that code. I just reset it everytime. It comes on about every six weeks or so, although lately it seems that it might be coming on sooner. I'll be going for an e-test in about about month and we'll see if the car passes (98 GS400)
Thanks for all your help. I'm going to order a plug and play sensor. I just got to find the part number so I can order it. I'm going to call Lexus tomorrow and hopefully they will hook me up.
Order one from Denso.com. Bank 1 Sensor 2 is on the Driver's side. If you want to change it you have to remove the rug from the driver's side to disconnect the connector. GL! Ask some one with a Repair Manual to load up pics!

so a total of 500bucks? Tell whoever you asked to to shove it up their....yeah.
I got my Denso O2 sensor from Autozone for like 150, I attempted to do it myself but with the corrosion and heat, I ended up breaking the O2 removal tool. Took it to a reputable shop and got it done in like 15mins.

I'll probably just buy the repair manual. Its suppose to be e-tested this month. I don't see that happening. Unless it stops raining so I can work on it. Thanks for telling me where it is.

Ya that's pretty much what I said. They had a list it came up to like 1100 bucks plus tax. They said it needs an O2 sensor and a Y-Pipe. I was like thats a little bit high for two items...lol. I'm up north in Canada right now. So I think the corrosion might make this a little hard. We will see.
If you are talkin about Emission Test for Smog. I would advise you to clear the CEL drive it for 30 mins straight before turning off the key. If CEL stays off, you have done your job. And just go get the smog. GL.
