I'm attempting to do a swap for automatic windows in a Toyota daily driver. Does anyone know if the switches themselves do the auto up and down, or is this controlled by a separate regulator?
Been a long time since I've done mods on a car, and I figured I'd ask those who have done more to these than I. I help out where I can, but this one's outside my knowledge base for now.
There's more to it than just the switches. Every door that has the auto up/down has a "door ecu". It's senses and regulates the position of where the window is.

big when we talked, i forgot bout those.
but shouldnt the toyota ones you have ALSO have a door ecu....maybe just some re-wiring and they will work or maybe you might have to get the door ecus from the lexus and use them also

Is it a combination of them, or just the ECU's, though? If I can use the existing switches and change ECU's, that may be easier. If I have to get bofum, I may still do it, just a bit more challenging. I really want the auto winders!

Yep, that's what I'm trying to finger out (see above). I'll buy the whole dilly if I have to, but I don't want to overbuy.

Big Mack
y dont u just take your exisiting controls/door ecus and see if u can get it to work so you'll know what you do/dont have to buy to convert your yota over?

I'm not slicing and dicing the Lex to see if I can do a mod to the Toyota. I'm doing the research to avoid having extra, but if worse comes to worse, I may buy each piece. I've got a call in to another contact about it, too. If I get more info from him, I'll definitely let everyone know what I find out.
Thanks for the help thus far, and if anyone knows definitively what is needed, I'd appreciate it.
Do a search, there are several companies that manufacture the aftermarket parts needed for window automation. I haven't done one in a while, but back in the day when remote starters were just geting popular there were tons of companies that made window automation modules.
Here is what a quick search brought me to, which is exactly what you need. The only thing you have to figure out is the amount of windows you want to control. Usually the modules either control 2 or 4 windows. If you have an aftermarket alarm, you can also use an output to open or close your windows remotely.
I'm pretty sure you're gonna need both the window switches and the ECU. Check the junk yards for a wrecked Lex and pull the parts. Just about every lexus has the auto up/down stuff so it shouldnt be hard to find.

No he does not. If the daily driver Toyota that he is trying to mod has power windows already, all he needs is this or something similar:
It will give him one touch express up, one touch express down, and the ability to lower or raise the windows remotely via an alarm output. I've done this a million times. This aftermarket module ties into your factory window switches and your factory power window motor/regulator. Depending on how long you press your factory window switch is how it determines if you just want to partially lower/raise your window or if you want to express lower/raise your window.
