Question Dynamic Headlight Aim Warning Light

Greetings All,
This weekend I was driving my 98 GS400 and found that after I started my car the warning light associated with the dynamic headlight aim remained illuminated. I drove for about 20min and then shut the car off while sitting at a stoplight. I re-started the car and the light came on for five seconds and then went out (this is normal).

Why was the light on for the 20min the first time? Anyone ever had this or similar problem?

-Damon

Sounds like you have a larger issue than just your lights if you car completely died on you.

May want to give a call to the dealer and have them check out your electrical system? Be glad you weren't driving / moving.....

Keep us posted.

I think he meant that he shut his car down at the light on purpose. Then started it back up. Right Pearl?!?!? Anyway, sorry, but cant help u out on the problem. Hope it was just a minor temporary glitch.

Whoops - my bad. Maybe the aiming servos got sticky? Or your levels in your headlight housings are bumped out of whack?

Good luck, nonetheless.

Default Right on.

I purposefully turned the car off and re-started it to see if the problem would re-appear. And it didn't.

You might be right. The air temperature was about 5degrees F. Wind chill was around -20 degrees. The self-adjusting mechanism could have temporarily froze. Anything is possible.

I just thought that others might have encountered the same warning light. Guess not....

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. Started the car and the warning light did not turn off. Actually drove around a bit because I did not realize the headlights were pointing down. After shutting down and restarting the headlights were fine and I have not had a problem since.

I had the radio (nak) lock up completely once -- it was ok after a shutdown & restart. But that was a known TSB and I had the radio replaced under warranty.

Everything these days is computerized and computers crash (some more elegantly than others). Even seen cell phones and surround sound receivers crash. I suppose I shouldn't use "crash" in a car conversation. ;-)

Lightbulb A1lexus

a1lexus,
This warning light is not a HID indicator or warning light. The light is to inform the driver that the automatically adjusting headlight is operational. I assume you know that the headlights will dynamically move depending on the pitch of the car. If you're car is hauling alot of fatties in the back, the headlights would shine higher right? Not with cars equiped with the auto adjusting mechanism. When the car is weighted down or you make sudden accelleration or decelleration the lights will adjust accordingly.

The warning light is on the dash, with all the other warning lights (i.e. high beams, check engine, VSC OFF, etc.)

Cheers.
