automatic headlight leveling system warning light

automatic headlight leveling system warning light
today, during daylight hours i had this warning light come on. it has the headlight symbol with an arrow up and and arrow down on either side of the headlight symbol.
anyway i could not figure out what it was. so i turned the ignition all the way off and then restarted the car and it did not come back on. i drove the car 3 or 4 more times later in the day and it never happened again.
tonight i looked it up in the owners manual and the warning light is called the
"AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT LEVELING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT"
it is #18 on my instrument cluster.
on page 23 of my owners manual it says;
"As the headlight beam level is always maintained
automatically at the proper level in all loading conditions, your
headlights do not dazzle other road users.
If this system fails, the warning light in the instrument cluster
comes on. If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by Lexus
dealer."
so my question is do i need to get this checked out, could it just be an electronic blip, a malfunction?
has anyone else had this happen?
thanks

The leveling system warning light came on a few times after Lexus replaced one of my headlamps. Lexus Service checked it and it came on only once after that.

It doesn't cost anything to take the car in and have it checked out, so why not do it. If something is getting ready to break it could be cheaper to take care of it now. In addition, you would hate to have a catastrophic failure occur while driving at night, so I'd say this falls into the "better safe than sorry" category. Maybe it's nothing, but you won't know unless you bring it in.

but i'm curious why there would be no charge to check it out?

The dealers I've been to don't charge you if they find nothing wrong, and they don't charge a "diagnostic fee" or anything if you pay to get something that was broken fixed. I would expect that this is standard Lexus policy, but you could always call first to ask.
