Default Headlight Failure - Common Occurance?

Out of curiosity, has anyone here experienced a headlight failure?

I ask because I wonder if turning the headlights on and off often could cause the xenon lights to fail (I haven't experienced this yet).

My car was built in March 2001 and delivered to its first owner a month later in April. It still has it original headlamps and all other front end lamps.

It is interesting that you bring this up. My 430 is a 2006, lately I have been having some problems with headlamps, once they warm up a little, say 4-5 minutes the right one will shut off, if I turn the lamps off and back on it will light up again and stay lit, and sometimes the left one will shut off, once again I turn them off and on and it will light up again and say lit.

Could that be the bulbs, switch, relay, any ideas? On another note, when I try to light the upper Driver side Dome light it will not light up, and then 10 minutes later it will light up when it is depressed.

Weird and very random.

I will take it in next time it needs service and see what they say.

Regards,

Trygve

The dome light has a wimpy socket for the bulb. Take the lens off, remove the bulb and bend the tab toward the bulb more. (This is the tab that is supposed to make contact with the bottom contact of the bulb.) Then replace your bulb. That is likely to be your problem.

Thanks for the advice Harold57.

I will have a look at that on Saturday. Appreciate it.

BTW, when I said to replace the bulb, I didn't mean to buy a new one, just put the old one back it unless it is burned out.

I have seen the contact on automotive bulbs get flattened out or worn off in the past. I just added more solder to the contact to bring it back to original size and it worked fine after that. However, I doubt that is the problem with yours. You most likely just need to bend the tab like I mentioned above to bring the tab back into a good tension contact with the bulb contact. Let us know how that turns out.
