Default ???'s for you guys with remote start...

I got a 2g gs300 and i got an aftermarket alarm installed. I've got the bypass module for it. Now my question is, do you need a 2nd key to get the remote start to work? The installer said he needs to program it with 1 key in the ignition and the main to program. The car wants to start but he says it won't till i have the 2nd key. Does that sound right?

He probably has the cheaper version of the bypass module. Those require a key to be hidden away somewhere in the car. DEI makes another bypass module that's a little more money, about $30-40 for that one. It can save the transponder code into the module and it send it to the car's ecu when the remote start on the alarm activates the module.

I also used the DEI module, just make sure whoever is installing it solders it and doesn't try just using standard connectors.

That was a concern just before I got my Viper alarm installed but the installer did use the module from DEI so another key was not needed.

for our car the new modules whether from dei, fortin, or idatalink do not require a key the transponder code is saved to the module.
