Trunk Problems
Hey guys, well I have a problem that's not big but it does bug. A few months ago I drove my car to Vegas. i loaded my trunk w/ a few suitcases. When I closed it, I had to put a bit of force on it. When I got to my hotel, I opened the trunk and there was a loud noise. I unloaded my turnk and noticed that there is a bar that goes across the trunk to hold it open. This bar has fallen off, This results in the trunk not staying open. It looks like a fairly easy fix but I just can't figure out how the bar assembles to fit into its place. Is anyone familiar with the trunk of the GS? I don't want to go to the dealership if I don't have to...
I actually just changed these the other day to get the correct spoiler-weighted ones instead of OE non-spoiler ones(finally).
I think you are talking about the "torsion bar" that counters the trunk weight.
There are 2 of them, one going to the left and one to the right.
Remove the 1 (left) or 2(right) plastic clips from the trunk sides and pull back the lining to see the 3 positions where the ends of the bars hook into the body.
If only 1 bar came off, examine the other bar to see how it fits into the various slots. It's symmetrical.
To get the bars into the right position, so you will have to use some muscles to manuever and twist them into the corresponding slots-they aren't going to just slip in. They are supposed to hold up your trunk lid, so you got to preload the tension the bar, so to speak. If you've got the spoiler set, you'll need extra muscle power. The bars are designed to twist and won't snap.
The slots to use should be pretty straightforward, I assume you were afraid to just muscle and pull the bar into the right slots.
If both fell off and you have no clue how the bar fits into the various slots, I guess I can take some pictures later.

Yea just one of the bars fell off so I'm sure I can take a look at the other and see how it's mounted. That post was very helpful, I'll try it out and see if I can muscle it it.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
so I had a spoiler and recently had it taken off. I like the fact that my trunk now pops open and not just like a half inch. I just dont like the extra force it takes to actually close it. Is there any way to slightly adjust it?
