proly from brake dust or tire shine if you use it.

+1

Remove all the tire shine from your tires next time you wash it and see if the Dirt halo returns. Probably just that nice shiny stuff slinging off onto the body.

Is the paint still smooth? if so it should just wipe right off.

I do. You have to keep trying different brands or styles till you find one that looks good to you and does not sling onto the body with your driving style. OR read some recommendations in the detailing section here on CL.

Keeping car waxed makes it a lot easier to just make one quick swipe with a a microfiber cloth and clean it all off between washes.

Put the tire shine on when you park the car for the night so it can dry overnight, that should cut down alot on the slinging. See if that helps.

Do you have stock wheels? In my experience, more aggressive wheels tend to get a little more dirt on the side of your car since the tires are sitting out further.
