change fuel filter- how often?
is there a write up for this? i remember when i purchased my gs300, and went to the dealership looking to buy the fuel filter, they said it had none. well specifically, there was a small filter on the fuel pump. is this the fuel filter?
if not, if there a picture somewhere of where the fuel filter is? =/ thanx

Toyota/ Lexus have no interval on fuel filters.
In general it is a lifetime filter.
It is good however to replace the filter when major work is done to the fuel system, new injectors, new fuel pump, head work, a new motor or maybe 250,000 miles on the original.

It's not hard. It looks like a sock thing that goes over the bottom of the fuel pump.
Steps to replace:
-Remove rear lower seat section
-Remove 3 plastic nuts holding outer cover
-Remove screws holding in fuel pump assembly
-Disconnect fuel line and harness on top
-Pull out fuel pump assembly
-Remove fuel pump filter and replace with new
-Put everything back
I can do it in about 10 minutes.

If I'm not mistaken a fuel filter normally resides within the engine bay and kind of resembles a pop can that maybe black in color. The filter that is directly connected to the fuel pump is the fuel pump strainer which is not as efficient as an actual filter. So in essense the GS might not have an actual fuel filter.

I think the last cars I worked on (I don't work on many anymore) that had a under hood filter were Honda's. Most vehicles now have them mounted along the framerail. Others like my Durango and GS430 have then incorporated into the fuel pump. The manufacturers usually say that the fuel pump mounter fuel filter is good for the life of the pump so no service interval is given.

No, Jefftsai is right. It is in the fuel tank, on the fuel pump. Toyota claims that the filter will last the life of the pump, which they claim should last the life of the vehicle.
