A guy is selling me 4 new staggered (9.5 & 8.5)wheels with new tires 245-35-19(less than 4 months) for $950. I wide open my eyes... (He really need the money) I know is a good deal but...
My car is now in the paint shop for a complete paint work so I'm unable to see how the new wheels will look.
Anyway, I have to replace all tires when it get out of the shop. I asked at one store about the prices for this new tires(245-35-19) when it get the time for replacement.
He told me: the cheap one is $220 ea plus $20 for installation ea. Wow! About $250 for each tire is not a funny thing to me. The salesman indicated: ahhh, when you get a flat tire remember: have to find a shop with the appropriate machinery for repair the tire and it w'l cost $25. And broken tires is a common thing with those kind of wheels. Wow
I really don't roll too much but I'm a hell driver. I like to go "fast and furious" lol.
Before this deal came to my hands I was planning to buy the four tires 235-50-17 (one inch taller) (Actually is 235-45-17)and then install a 1" lowering kit. This way I will be increasing 1 inch on tires diameter but will drop this inch on fender gap. Really I don't like the lot of empty space in the fenders.
By your experience and another point of view: what do you think?
Stay with 17" and bigger tires and new drop or go for the 19" with thinner tires ? The money equation is about the same (new tires plus lowering kit is about $700) vs $950...
19"si have found are the most expensive tire size. i'd go either 18"s with a drop or save for 20"s and drop. there are more tire sizes and brands available for 18"s and 20"s. good luck and what are the offsets for the wheels your friend offered? are they on or from another GS?
Don't know the offset but I installed one in the rear and fix good. almost flush but no problem. About the 18".... the thing is the good deal is with 19" not 18".
Not a good idea to spend $2000 plus for only one inch. Y better to stay with 17".
I can buy 4 new good tires for $345 (235-50-17)
Another question: the lower the profile... the increase in road noise or it doesn't matter??
How do you feel your car after wheels changes? (road noise and steadyness)
honestly it depends on the brand of tire as far as the feeling goes. and sizing is up to you. it depends on the style you like. I personally had 18" before and it was way too small especially without a drop. the wheel gap from the tire to the fender was horrible . but it is your car and you should do what you like to it. the 19"s may be cheap deal now but when it comes time to replace those tires you will be digging deep into your pocket. just save your money and do it right the first time. there will be plenty of wheel options in the future and get what you want. don't regret making a split second decision based on price. when it comes to our cars quality always tops cheap prices.
