What is the difference betwwen a 2001 grill vs the earlier ones? ANyone have any pics?

 

The 2001 and up grill has thicker bars, I have one of them they look alot better when chromed.

 

Wait...

Can 2001+ grills (with the existing strip of chrome on the fatter bars) be even more chromed with acetone as described in many other threads?

Or does that process only work for 98-00 grills. Thanks

 

Thats what I did, just paint remover and it looks really hot. See the other difference with the 01' grill is that the L is bigger.

 

Will the L from my older(current) chrome grill still fit the newer grill?

I'm curious whether the outer left and right sides of the 2001 grill are "filled" in (ie ribs are connected) like the pre-2001 grills as shown in the other thread about chrome grills.

 

The 2001 is on the right.

I believe those are just ghis bulbs. ANyway, the newer grill does look alot nicer on the GS, it seems "cleaner" gives the eye less detail to concentrate on.

I noticed that you had a Platinum Edition, did you have to replace the "L" with a chrome one for it to fit ? That is the only thing holding me back from getting a new grill, does anyone know if you can separately order the new black pearl "L" ? I thought black pearl badging was now an option on all GS's, and not just the rear letters. Anyone ?

 

Yes, you can purchase that separately. I know because my front grill was in a little accident with an SUV. The grill was damaged.. so is the L. I order the Black Pearl badge separately.

 

The "L" comes off.....I still have the black "L" with the chrome grill if you notice..,.....(my car is on the left)

 

For those interested, the L on the 01 grill is different than the earlier years and they will not interchange. I picked up the grill from Steve, and it came with the chrome L,whereas I have the gold package so I have to order a L that will fit
