I'm sorry I don't have any pictures yet but I just wanted to cast my opinion that the Borla muffler/tips sound and look great. They don't in any way take away from the Lexus mystique and class, imo.
I don't attach a battery charger to my car for fuel so I didn't like that it was totally silent.
I highly recommend this to anyone considering adding a better look, sound, and what the heck, 7 rwhp.
Another thing, when we did the install we had to weld apart the right muffler (it was too long) and shorten it. No problemo, that set us back fifteen minutes. It measured out perfectly when it was resoldered.
So far, the rubber mounting brackets that came with the Borlas have worked just fine.

I am interested now getting the Borla after reading all these great things about it, any recommendations on where I can or should get it from? and any shops around the LA area that can do the work?
I got mine from Summit Racing and it was sent to my front door for $412. The installation cost me $75 and it was worth every penny.

I pull up the part number, it shows :
BOR-11733 Rear Section 98 Lexus GS 300/400 $405.99
Is that the right part? or is there another one for 2001 GS430?

They are direct bolt ons but sometimes the mufflers are not measured out perfectly. My install guy said perhaps this was a Monday morning manufacturing job or they did the left muffler, went to lunch, and forgot to measure out on the right one. Anyways, this is fairly common and not a problem whatsoever.

Good question. I would doubt that there would need to be different mufflers for the GS430. Call and ask for some help. They were helpful to me but each service guy has a varying degree of knowledge if you know what I mean.

thanks for the opinion. anyone else with comments on how this exaust system compares sound wise with others, such as blitz, hks, greddy, or apex? this one is definitely the least expensive of the bunch.

Borlas have the best-looking tips IMHO (they match the bumper opening shape), and you don't see the mufflers hanging down from the side like the others, and are also one of the quietest.
The mounting system was truly disappointing though (mounting brackets didn't line up at all), and when I finished, the mufflers were touching the sides of the bumper, and hanging down horribly (those rubber-band hangers are crap).
I was able to perfectly center the mufflers inside the bumper cavity, and push them up so the clearance all around is the same (my pinkie). I just bought 5/8" fuel hose and slipped it into all 4 brackets, then secured the mufflers top and sides (used the towing holes) with worm clamps; worked like a charm, but I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how the hell to make them look the way they should.
If you don't have time to work on them, and if you're a perfectionist when it comes to your car (most of us are, huh?), I heard Lexus's own L-Tuned should look perfect because they use the stock hangers, and those suckers are STRONG (no need for clamps there). I just think they screwed up with the round tips and the big ugly mufflers ruining the line below the bumper.
Good luck buddy.

Juan is correct that the rubber mounts don't allow for the tips to be perfectly centered. After Christmas I am taking his advice and will go for perfection with the fuel hose and worm clamps. Thanks a lot, Juan!

Hey guys, when I get my digital camera, I'll take some pictures under the car to help you visualize how I clamped them in place.
After I was finished, I wouldn't change my borlas for any other current system out there. At least I'm saving you some time, since I figured out how to fix it cheaply.
One big caution: Make sure once the clamps are installed they are NOT BENT at the worm cuts (the slits); do some measuring first (at the end, the sharp bends at the brackets should be on solid metal). You can even join 2 clamps together for that purpose, especially the long ones on the sides. Since it's tight in there, I suggest pre-bending the tightening clamp right after the screw (so it stays in place), making sure the screw is outward and at the top bracket so it doesn't show. A long 1/4" socket extension does the tightening job. After a few hundres miles, once the hoses are not going to compress anymore, you can position the tips perfectly.
Hope this helps.

i don't really see the point of paying 400 bucks for an exaust that isn't "very visually noticeable" and has a noise factor "similar to stock"....no offense meant, i'm just trying to decide myself and was wondering how it really differs from stock.
