Default Tires for stock rims - Yoko, Dunlop, or Michelin

I'm looking to replace the Goodyear Invictas that came on the car. I've narrowed it down to 3 finalists after doing some research on the internet.

Yokohama AVS DB
Dunlop SP Sport A2
Michelin Pilot XGT H4's or V4's

My main concern is quietness. The car will also see some snow a few times a year so I need to take that into consideration. What does everyone think? Other suggestions?

I think the AVS dB are the quietest from all the "research" I have done....I have never had a ride on a set of those however.

As long as you don't get any snow, I believe that the Yoko AVS db's are your best bet. Seem to be one of the queitest tires out there.

I just put Dunlop SP5000 Asym's (225/55/16) on my GS to replace those crap Goodyear's. They are much quieter than the Invicta's, especially over concrete highway pavement. Handling is much improved. Ride quality has seemed to have suffered a little bit. The tirerack.com has information on all of these tires, and has a nice chart that gives a quick overview of all of these choices.

I replaced the 215/60-16 Goodyears with the Dumlop SP5000 225/55-16 and am very pleased with the quietness and the improved handling. THis is the tire that the car should have come with from the factory.

I would go with the Michelin Pilot XGT V4's. I think you need to put the V4's on the GS. The H4's are good too and I put them on my es300 and replaced the dunplop sp4000's that came with them. I can tell this much, the tires are quiter, look 10x better. I am in the same situation as you are. I have a GS4 with the Good year tires. I am thinking of switching them maybe to the pilot XGT V4's. I know I wont get the same milage if were to choose the H4's, but I will get better traction. Also, you might want to consider toyo tires in you list.

also in the same position, i'm looking to get 18s in a year, so i am looking for good traction in the rain and snow and want something quiet, not so much handling and things like that.

I got the Dunlop SP Sport A2 tires installed yesterday. They are only a H rated tire but I don't drive my GS the way it can be. My initial thought is the ride/noise is a little bit better than the Goodyears. We are leaving today on a 5 hour trip to northern Iowa where they are expecting 3 inches of snow. I'll report back on the ride/handling and how they perform in the snow.

Non lexus related but I ordered Yokohama AVS db's for my wife's Maxima. Should be in next week. I will let everyone know how they work out. Have to be better than the howling Michelin's.

Ron430,

Definitely let us know how they turn out. I wanted to get those but it was going to take 10 days to order. They also aren't the best snow performers........if only I didn't have to worry about that!
