Talking New here

This is my first time here on the forum, been on here a couple of times since I got my GS. Quick question, have you guys had any problems with one-off intakes, e.i. home made??

I wouldn't drop just any crap intake in. The MAF sensor system in the GS is very high precision and will be sensitive to any minor anomalies. The MAF plate must be mounted at a correct angle, depth, and have no air leaks for the sensor to work properly. The pipe diameter must also be 2.5" in front and behing a few inches of the MAF sensor. This is because the MAF sensor is calibrated to a 2.5" diameter. If you run a 3" pipe the whole way, the air flow reading will be thrown off and you would need something to tune it for the different diameter pipe. If you don't tune it for the bigger diameter pipe, the engine will stall or have reduced power. I'd recommend you to just buy a properly engineered intake. It will save you a ton of headaches trying to figure out why the intake is not working properly.

Anyways, welcome to CL!

Yes, they dont work correctly. There is TONS of info on it here but if you are going to run a significantly larger intake you NEED to have some sort of fuel compensation.

Stick to name brands when choosing an intake. Definitely do not cheap out as it will cause expensive damage in the end most likely. Most of all have fun with your modding and get things that you will love. Get something so that every time you look under your hood you go "Hot damn!!!"

*Disclaimer* In getting nice things that you love you may have accidents in your pants constantly. I am NOT responsible for ruined/stained pants and/or anything else that is ruined by your splooge.

Welcome to the family!

Like everyone else said, unless you really know what you're doing, your best bet is to buy a proper intake.
