Default ASL Question

I tried searching, but it appears you need at least 4 letters for the forum to search (and not much info when searching for Automatic Sound Leveling).

I have an 01 GS430 with ML and Nav and the ASL doesn't seem to work correctly. I drive in town a lot so it is annoying to have it raise and lower the volume all the time, however if I turn the ASL off the sound completely flattens out. The bass goes away and I really only get mids. Not sure if there's something wrong with my system, of if there's a work-around, or if I'm just stuck with it.

Searching the forum for "asl*" returned some results, but none had to do with what I was looking for. The forum search didn't like "*asl". Thanks for the search help, though.

What do you mean when saying "non" had to do with what you were looking for?

I asked the same question about the ASL when I got mine. I've learned that it is just extremely sensative, so I turned it off and keep it off. It does sound a little more flat, but I've gotten used to it, and once you turn up the volume, everything fills out in my opinion

Sorry, I clarified my last post. The post just had to do with searching the CL forums.

The thing is, even when I turn it up with the ASL off, it still sounds flat.

I understand now. Well, I asked the same question on the forum a few months ago and it appears that we are stuck with it being hyper sensative or turning it off completely. I wish they would have put in a sensativity option to allow the amount of volume increase.

As I said earlier, I keep mine off completely. My ears have gotten used to it. I have even done a side by side comparison with the Pioneer system in my '99 GS that is still in my garage. The Mark Levinson still sounds a lot better. Back when I had the Pioneer system in my '99 I thought it was the best stock premium system I've personally heard before.
