Default Valet key question

I took my car in to get an oil change yesterday. I just noticed today that my valet key is missing. I'm not sure if it fell off or someone at the mechanics took it.

I know the valet key can open the car door and start the engine...my question is if I have my factory alarm on, will the valet key still be able to open the car door and if it can, will the alarm sound??

I never had a problem at the mechanics, but yesterday I saw a few new faces working there, so I'm thinking the worse and seeing what I can do "just in case".

that sucks. i'm pretty sure the valet key will still open the door with the alarm on but it should set off the alarm too thus making the car unable to start thru the kill switch. me thinks...

Think of your valet key as your master key but without the remote operation and without the ability to open your glove and trunk if it was locked.

So if your key didn't magically walk away, it can be used to steal your car without a problem.

i hate to break it to u buddy, but fear the worst. the valet key can open the door and start the car with NO PROBLEM... i say that you go get an aftermarket alarm added to your car so that u need the remote for the alarm to start the car... i know it would suck that you have to pay for it, BUT u dont know if u lost it or it was stolen and since u cant prove it was stolen, u have to assume u lost it and just chalk it up as a loss and get an aftermarket alarm to cover u... good luck

The valey key is what theives look for when they break in to steal a GS or IS. That happen to gs4fun, they broke into his car and they went through his glove box and under the dash crazy looking for the key. They didn't find it cuz he removed it so they left with only taking what they could grab. Pleas be very careful. I would make a report at the dealer that you had it there before and that now i is gone, Maybe if you make a big enough stink about it they will replace the whole key system. I know its a long shot but if you demand to speak to Lexus Corp. stating that you are 100% sure the key was there before and not after with letting them know that you have a major amount of aftermarket money into your car maybe it can get done so you feel safe. I know I wouldn't.

It's also very easy to modify a valet key to open the trunk and glove box...
