engine pinging and knocking
Hey guys i need your help......when i am in manual mode and in 2nd or 3rd gear.....when i press down on the around 2000-4000rpms i hear a terrible engine ping....I tryed different gas....fuel additives and octane boosters....the dealer doesn't have a clue can someone help me out with this problem......also when it is extremely hot outside like today, when i drive around for awhile the vsc abs lights come on..anyway to get rid of that problem??
My car used to do that until I changed my spark plugs. No more pinging. How many miles are on your car and when was the last time you had your sparks changed? on you lights, take your car to autozone and have them pull the trouble codes. That should give you a starting point.
whenever these issues come up, I always try to reset the ECU first to see if it helps.

spun bearing? exhaust manifold? it could be alot of things kinda to board to be answered dude~!
is it a loud ping or knock or is it loud? on my supra i had an exhaust manifold leak and i thought it was the motor knocking on me but then i figgured out it was a just a loose mani so those sounds are pretty damn confusin. i think u would need to be more specific for the guys to help u outs.
does the sound get louder from speeds? does it sound differnt when u rev at idle? does the sound increase durin engine speeds? sound sounds the same durnin load n noload?
is it to loud for u todistinguish if its comin from which bank?
did it effect proformance? do u beat the livin hell of ur car? is ur oil levels correct? what type of motor oil u use? have u swapped motor oils recently? what grade motor oil is it?
do u use addativesin ur motor oil?
just tell people they are JE pistons -=X lolz

I changed the spark plugs with the 60000 mile tune up service.....i use synthetic motor oil 5w30 castrol. It only pings when i am at high speeds. Lets say i am doing 80 and i press down to go to 90 or 100 i hear the pinging noise. Or, of i am in manual mode an i am in 3rd gear at around 2000 rpms.....when i press down hard to go to say 5000 rpms i hear the noise until i switch to another gear. all noise i coming from the engine bay. I don't beat the hell out of the car infact i pretty much baby it. 2500 mile oil change constant tune ups. It does not effect my performance but it is pretty scary to hear so i rarely utilze manual mode. If i am driving normal throughout the streets i rarely hear it at all. I had a diagnostic done on it with no abnormal codes

Any update? I see you are from Brooklyn, and so am I, and I had a similar problem with my vehicle. I took it to a diagnostics place on stillwell avenue, and they fixed it - claimed that they had the PCM reprogrammed, as it wasnt supplying enough fuel.
