Default Replacing stock speakers

Yesterday I went with my sister computer shopping. And like most of us, I'm sure everytime we go shopping for one thing we think about getting something for the Lex. So I took a stroll over to the car audio section. I've been thinking about switching up my stock speakers. They were running a promotion of interest free financing for 12 months. I got approved for $3k on their store card. I was on the verge of buy 4 Alpine Type-S coaxial speakers for $49 each and an Alpine M-350 multichannel amp to push them for $199 but I decided not to. I was looking at the Type-S component speakers but they were twice the price of the coaxials. What do you guys think?

How much of an upgrade are you looking for? What's your max budget?

To be honest I'm not sure how much I'm looking to spend. I don't want to get something cheap though. I just want something that sounds better than stock cause the music distorts when I turn it up and even more so when I turn up the bass. I thought the coaxials were a good price but I hope they're good quality.

I've been out of the car audio game for a while now but my set up was:

mb quartz components in the front getting ~80 rms each from an rock solid old kenwood 4 ch amp

kicker coaxials in the back getting powered by the same amp

2 12" audiobahn natural series subs (imo best bang for the buck and in small sealed enclosures not bad SQ) getting 400 rms each from a audiobahn amp

Now I wanted to take out the 2 12"s and replace them with a brahma but I ended up getting rid of the car. I realize this wasnt the best setup ever but it was more than I needed. If you need more help decided which route to go visit caraudioforum.com and just read around.

You should really go with the components. Seperates are always better.

dude.... you want quality at affordable price... check out lanzar... i just picked up 3 pairs of the optidrive component set... 3" coil... i tested them at home with about 150+rms.. and no distortion whatssoever. thats free air too... using the little square of carton they came in as a enclosure... mounted upside down you get really great bass responce for 60-6khz. i got 2x 5 1/4 and one 6.5 im puttin it all in custom glass... however the 5 1/4 u can probably fit with minor mods into the stock setup... i recc highly.. and at the price u cant complain... i paid 400 for all of them.

What are the stock speakers size for a GS4? I'm going to be replacing my speakers soon and adding two additional speakers for better highs. Great sale going on tomorrow at a local car stereo shop and i'd like to capitalize on it.

No one here has mentioned that replacement speakers do not directly bolt in. Adapters need to be made. I used to make them but I just don't have the time lately. I am considering making a PDF template for other members to print out and make their own adapters but again it will take time I don't have right now. I just thought you should know before you buy your speakers and get all excited and start to install then you find out it's a no go.

Is that all the way around? I called the dealer and they said they didn't know. All they had were diagrams and pictures of the speakers. They said they only had part numbers in reference to the speakers. He also said that the speakers are like components...not just 1 single speaker.

Trying to replace all the speakers at once cuz i found a sweet deal. Now all i need to do is find out what size i need.

stock speaker sizes are 4 inches. be careful about the magnet size of the speakers too. you don't want the window to not be able to roll all the way down after the speaker install.

I replaced my stock speakers with 6.5" CDT EuroSports (which have huge magnets) and also mounted extra tweeters on these mids in addition to replacing the tweeters in the A pillars. Of course you need a great (not just good) installer and you have to replace the stock speaker pods but you will never get as much midrange from 4" speakers.

Can you hook up aftermarket speakers and an amp to the stock radio?? I'm like you. I'm not even thinking about upgrading my stereo. I was into that back in highschool but after my old car got stolen and countless stories of friends' stereos getting jacked, it's just not worth it to me.
