Default Market Value?

I have an 01 GS430. Blue Onyx Pearl, Black interior. Fully loaded Mark Lev, Nav, etc. 68K. All Highway. SRT Intake, Borla Exhaust, L-Tuned Springs. Always dealer maintained, and warranty to 100k.

With the new model out, what I am looking at now for market value of this car. I love it, unfortunitely it won't pull my boat . I am still considering picking up a "beater pickup" for winter and towing. But right now looks like I am selling.

edmunds.com and kbb.com

look at their price and average the two. you should be within the ballpark of the market value.

And oh yea, part out your intake and exhaust if you can. You'll get more for the parts and people actually rather buy a stock car than a car already modified (modded gives them the impression that the car was ran hard).

Black book value (what a dealership would give you) is around $17,500.00.
They would then turn around and sell it for around $24k-$25k. Pretty crappy
if you ask me. Btw, that figure was just given to me by my used car manager.

Rare blue and black combo. It will sell. Post it in the classifieds.

GSteg is right about the aftermarket parts, you limit yourself to a certain age group of potential Buyers.

You can also try nada.com

Thank you for your replies. I am aware of these sites, they do not take into account demand. My Supra when I sold it was only worth 16k book but I got 24 for it. Problem with returning to stock is I no longer have stock exhaust or airbox. Do have stock springs though. I guess I just need to decide when to list it. Thanks again.

Then you sell your Borla's and SRT and as part of the sale require that they swap out the OEM ones, just need to find a local buyer

Supra is more of a specialty car that had a market that varies by the seasons. The GS is more of a, dare I say it, Sedan.
When pricing I'd get out a spreadsheet and check the following.

KBB
NadaGuides
Edmunds.

Then look at a place like Carsoup.com or something equivilant and local. Take all the cars in you range and average the prices.

Then swing through Cars.com, and Edmunds again and look at your car again. Average out all the prices.

Then go to Ebay and look at only the closed and sold items. Add that into your spreadsheet.

Last, check out you local Lexus dealership and see what they are asking for similar cars.

All that info will give you a decent ballpark to play in. It sounds like work, but you can get all that info in less than an hour and will give you the tools to price your car reasonably.

Remember that Mods add about 20-30% of true value at best. In some cases they can repulse a buyer because they think they are getting a car someone has messed with. One way to get back the stock parts is to sell the bolt ons and take the stock parts from the buyer.

Good luck. I'm trying to sell a truck right now and I'm doing the same process. Tough market for gas guzzlers right now.

don't forget to add on another $500 or so to what you actually want for it as everyone likes feeling like they were able to negotiate some off of the price.

As for the supra comparison.. that's just one of those rare examples of a car that not just holds it's value, but has a value that went up due to demand.. I had a 94TT that i also bought for $16k and sold 6 months later for $24k.. thanks to fast and the furious!

On average, a dealership will give you about 20% below what your car is really worth. Keep in mind that they buy at wholesale prices, they have to build in their profit margin into their pricing. I think your best bet in trading it in would be to get the car back to "as stock" as possible. Mods do not increase the price of your car UNLESS you're targeting the age group that wants a car Mod'd out already - dealerships won't give a rat **** about your mods and may not even take it.

I've also noticed that our cars are worth a LOT less than what KBB or Edmunds has it listed for. I think we can blame the 3GS for this I think those sites have not updated the pricing for the 2GS yet.

I'm looking for a used GS3 to use as a projet car, and every single one I have ran across is priced 4-5K under KBB!! These are prices at private dealers. The price from a Lexus dealer is still about 3K under KBB. Private sellers are about 5-6k under! Take a look on Autotrader or cars.com for a reference to how much your car is worth in your area.

I am a pre owned manager at a Lexus store, your car is worth about 17k, and no we couldnt sell it for 24 to 25k. The reason is it is no longer certifiable, IE we cant offer it as a CPO pre owned car with a 100k warranty. The cut off is a 2001, with 60k miles or less. If you had sold it/traded it 8k miles ago it would have been worth 2 grand more.
