Default Starter Removal gs400

I have heard there is a way to remove the starter from below without taking the upper intake off, is this true? Has anybody here done it? I read somewhere some guy who owns a shop in Canada can do it and it typically takes 3 hours total from start to finish... If not anybody know a shop up here in Sacramento area? I talked to Sac Lexus and they wanted $900.....

My starter is clicking now, 3 different occasions yesterday...

I don't see how its possible. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets a while back, and almost **** my pants when I saw where that starter was.

not possible at all. manifold has to come off. there is no way you can even get your hand in there if you don't take the manifold off. even the service manual says you have to take the manifold off.

Spend the money on this one at least you will have a warranty from the LEXUS dealer

Default Starter?

If the starter is that hard to get to, is this same procedure required in order to install a remote starter?

Anybody have a write-up on this?

I know someone documented the starter replacement on a 2nd gen LS400 pre-vvti, so I wasn't sure if a GS400 would be the same.

All the talk about removing injectors, rails, coolant bridges, etc..is very discouraging.

Shouldn't be - remote starter uses the computer to start the car, i believe.

It doesn't use a separate starter for sure...

I just changed mine not too long ago. I did ask members about this and i end up take it to the shop. I watched my uncle did it it take him almost 4hrs to finish up and pain in the A$$. who knew Starter that hard to change. LOL Should bring to the shop or get the part from Lexus Dealer and bring to the shop that you trust to do it. DON'T buy part from Kragen and stuff like that.

When I had to pull the 1UZ apart I had to remove the upper manifold and was amazed at the placement of the starter.

Good Luck,
jonny

My starter went up 3 days before christmas and I went EVERYWHERE trying to find someone to do it for a low price...I even asked the local mechanic in the barbershop and when i did his reaction was comedic to say the very least he said for him to do it it was gonna be like 5 hrs work and still he wanted my 1st born as payment lol...So to make a long story short i would love to have paid the 900 they wanna charge you than the 1350 Lexus of Towson charged me

i've never seen where the starter is on the GS400s.

Anyone have a picture of a diagram of where it goes?
