Call your insurance company. USUALLY, by law, they are free. Well, at least in FL they are. And they also have to be OEM, not aftermarket OEM. Both times I've had my windshield replaced (on the Camry I used to have) it was Toyota OEM Glass. Call your insurance and check with them. Its usually done the same day you call them.

Where Chuckb and I live, it's illegal to drive with a busted windshield, so to correct that it is free to get it fixed.

That is definitely aftermarket glass! As I recall, Steve at Carson Toyota quoted me $670 for Lexus OEM front windshield. In California, you will have to pay whatever the deductible is on your Comprehensive coverage. Usually $250 or $500 out of pocket depending on what coverage you picked.

I'm not a glass expert, but I HIGHLY doubt you could tell any difference between aftermarket and OEM glass

2001+ GS have water repellent built in the glass. you actually can tell a big difference. it's like having rain-x on it.

also, some cheap windshields distort your view from certain angles

Agreed. There is a differerence. My 98 had aftermarket glass and it was not water repellant and there was distortion from certain angles. Maybe it was just the brand the previous owner used (I think it was called Pinkerton).

Again, I'm not a glass expert but common sense would tell me that ANY curved glass is going to have SOME distortion.
The water repellant is cool though. I did not know that.

It depends on the source. Sometimes quality control is not as good on the aftermarket brands. I know that there was a definite difference between Lexus/Toyota and aftermarket on my SC400. Also, some of the aftermarket windshields are not made of the same gauge (thickness) of glass and they don't always have the same tint and masking on them. For example the GS has a pattern of black dots behind the rear view mirror placement to cut down on glare. This feature is not always included on aftermarket windshields.

I just had a small chip repaired at 'Speedy Glass'. They offer a service where they treat your windsheild with a rain repellant (not RainX, some other brand) and special wiper blades. If I remember correctly it's guarenteed for 1 year. Sorry I don't have a cost available as I didn't look into it, just read the signs while waiting.

Is my windshield not water repellant? I thought it was, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think it's 01+, but not sure. I think NEO might have the lexus library of model changes saved.
