Question

So I thought that the SC was supposed to be Lexus 'sports' car. I was browsing through the specs for the car and decided to compare it to my GS.

Weight:
GS: 3715
SC: 3840

Drag:
GS: 0.29
SC: 0.30

Wheelbase:
GS: 110
SC: 103

Even ground clearance is lower on the GS.

So I am puzzled. Given all these stats the GS is more of a 'sports' car then the SC. Looks and personal preference is a different story, of course.

Comments?

Neither is a sports car.

GS = Sport Sedan

SC = 2-Seat Luxury Cruiser

this is a VERY tough one......

I would say SC430 because it's a brand new model. And plus there are benefits of having 2 seats only .

GS is very cool too but I already have a 300.

I originally wanted a GS,but the year I wanted was still a bit too pricey for me,so I drive an SC,and think I'm better off.

Marty has it dead-on. SC is indeed a cruiser, albeit sorta quick. Not practical enough to be a grand tourer; not sporty enough to be a sports car; and a 4 door sedan in the lineup smokes it. The SC acronym has been interpreted to mean "sports coupe". I think we can reinterpret that to reflect it's somewhat bloated aquatic (hey, Lex Design says they went to the Riviera and modeled it after old cabin cruisers, so aquatic it is.....) appearance........how about "soggy carp"???

I kill me.

GS430 all the way! The design of SC430 isn't really my taste. Just a personal opinion.

Real Marty hit it dead on. "Neither is a sports car".

Both cars are capable to satisfy different people's taste in "sportiness"...personally, I would have no problem ripping it up in either a GS430 or a SC430...

I hope to one day have a SC430...I think I need a convertable...why not? Especially since it's a hard top convertable...

Sorry, everyone. Should have been a little more clear re the SC's styling. As some may recall, I owned 2 of the previous generation SC and consider the styling to be original, classic (in the sense of timeless: those lines will still look good in 50 yrs, as the original T-Bird or a 911 Porsche) and lovely to both look at and touch.

While I give Lexus credit for a bold statement in the new SC, I personally don't feel that the result is nearly as graceful or lithesome as the previous car. Some car mags with writers whose opinions I respect feel that it is too mindful of, say, the Audi TT. Doubtless the styling will grow on me with time. And it IS a Lexus, in every favorable sense which we refer to that brand. But, imho, it is just too blobby of a vehicle for me to warm to.........and therefore a target for some gentle humor.

As far as pictures, genearch, well, pix are a representation of reality. I've seen the car in the metal in several colors and sat in the only one our local dealer had (no demo yet, just a customer's car that agreed to let it sit in the dealership for a few days) at the time. So, my opinions of the appearance are formed from the actual 3 dimensional object.

And, as manaray pointed out, it will indeed satisfy some people's tastes......in fact, Lexus will probably sell all they can build for quite a while. I will be happy for those who do buy since we all understand what a great and fun car they'll be getting and I really do derive some vicarious pleasure from that. But, right now, the looks just don't do it for me.

For me, I would HAVE to have some sort of kit (mild of course) and would lower it and slap on some 19's or 20's...I would not like driving it stock (like the GS)

I can't wait to see all the stuff they're going to develop for the SC430...I'm sure we'll see many more body kits (hopefully, no nasty combat-style kits!) and maybe even some interior mods like converting the rear seat/shelf into something useful (I think Solo posted some picts of a storage bag of some sort)...

Personally, I'd be willing to rip out the back seat completely and install some sort of nice looking storage unit in it's place...maybe a combo storage unit with a cooler that could hold a case of Coke or something and then a functional/adjustable storage section (and lockable)...ok, I'm copyrighting this idea...be polite, don't bite...
