Strange problem w/ car shutting off
I filled the car with gas today and right after leaving the gas station I came to a red light at the bottom of a fairly steep hill and the car shutoff. All the warning lights came on and I ended up pushing the car through the intersection. After a couple of cranks the car started up and drove fine. The car is a 1999 GS400 with about 88k miles and all service is up to date. Any ideas on what caused this. Thanks
did you make sure the gas cap was tightened? sometimes the check engine light will come on if the cap isn't tightened. Do you have an aftermarket intake? sometimes if something is blocking the MAF sensor, it will cause the car to shut down.
This happened to me when my car was almost out of gas. I went to a gas station to fill her up and when I was at the red light the car shut off. After I cranked it twice everything was back to normal.

have you ever changed the MAF?. at 88k it's probably due. my MAF started acting up and was replaced at 26k miles.

This has happened to me a few times too. But, I have a habit of not shutting off my car while I put gas in the tank. Sometimes it will stall on me when I drive away from the pump. I won't get very far...I'm still in the gas station area when it stalls. I give it a crank, two it needed and all is ok from then on. I feel it's related to running with the cap off and it messes with the fuel line pressure. Sometimes the car seems to almost stall when I start pumping the gas into the tank.
