For those of you who've gotten a replacement windshield from Safelite, does the VIN number cutout line up with the VIN number plate? Just got mine replaced because of a star chip in the driver's side....anyways, I noticed the cutout doesn't line up at all with the VIN number plate. I talked to the people at Safelite and they said since its their aftermarket glass, any replacement they would bring in would be the same.

I called insurance to see what they'll do...but I'm guessing it's illegal to not have a visible VIN number on the car...I don't want any issues in the future if I ever get pulled over.

 

This problem even happens with the OEM glass. Reason being the 98-00 whindsheild had a different location for the vin #, then in 01-05 . So what happened was I had an 02 GS and my dealer replaced it with the lexus glass and I new it was strange because the glass said toyota instead of lexus and then I looked even more at it and noticed the vin was blocked. So thats when I was informed that from 98-00 the glass was stamped Toyota and the vin was in a different location. So I bet they use the glass from 98-00. They should have ordered the glass from your vin number. Thats what my dealer said they did wrong. But since I had no insurance they told me they would give me 50% back if I kept it so I did. No ticket so far but who knows? I would get it changed if they would do it. You def have a leg to stand on.
