NEED HELP!! Head light retro...
Long story short, I had a member do the Q45/e46 projector retrofit on my car. At the same time I had my bodykit repainted. The paint has been done for over a week and the bodyshop owner has been accommodating in letting me keep the car at his shop (he has a small shop) while waiting for the lights to come in.
I received the lights today, but the e46 projectors on the DRL, somehow split apart on both sides. I can't ship the lights back to have it fixed since that will take another week.
Does anyone in S. CA (San Gabriel Valley area, although I am willing to drive up to 2 hours) know of anyone that will be able to take the light apart, re-weld the projector and silicon the light back together cleanly. The body shop is expecting the lights by Monday morning.
Please help!
MODS: Please let this stay for at least the weekend.
I will attach pics...

Hmm can you take pictures of the back? , im assuming who ever did the retro j/b welded them to the reflector? in that case yah the whole headlight would have to come apart and becarifull if you do it or have soemoen do it for you in cali, because since the original chrome is kept inside its very easy to get the glue on it when you take the projectors apart, and when and whom ever redoes your lights make sure to sand down the surface before applying j/b weld and sand down the projector bowl also. And once its all done remember only heat up the housing dont heat up the lense because its easy to get the glue of the lense on to the chrome bazels. If you really want those lights to be done properly make sure you find someone who has done it before so none of that quick 6 hour fix it all stuff, in order for original j.b weld to cure completly you need atleast 24 hours. Your best bet is to go on ebay and buy 1 halogen headlight or hid and have it shiiped to you express, then have the lights fixed properly and once they are done you can sell the light back on ebay or here. Remember to do it right it takes time. On second look are you sure the projectors broke of? try moving them, do they move inside? if not then thats how whoever did your lights intended it to look.

Damn, that sounds complicated to me and doesn't seem like it can be done by Monday.
Let me check to see if that was intentional since both sides seem to have "broken" on the same spot. I guess it looks separated to me because the edges on both ends is "jagged" (don't know the correct term) and just looks broken. Although when you look at it straight on, it looks normal.

Well try and move them with ur hand, do they move freely? if not then there in place, and why do you need them done by monday? I mean if I lived in cali I would be able to do it by monday considering we would start tommorow but by the time you find someone and make a deal it might be longer, just buy one headlight and put it on ur car, you can drive with one untill these are ready. Or you can just put them on your car and take it home, then take one of and have it fixed once its done you put it back on and send out the other one. Its not that hard to remove them.

I'm still waiting for the response from the person. The more I look at the lights the more it doesn't seem right. When I shake it, it doesn't move, but I think that's because the top section is still welded together. Like I said earlier, the edges looks like it was welding together at one point and it separated.
Man, I thought you were from CA. This really sux. Do you have any connections or know anyone from HIDPlanet that you think would be able to do this job? Like I said, I'm willing to pay, since if I send the lights back to the guy next day, the cost would probably be the same as I pay someone local to do it.
Nope, im from illinois, well then just take the car home and contact the guy who did your lights, I think he would fix them back up for you if he wants to keep his reputation as a good retrofitter, so just take he care home and install only 1 headlight so you can drive at night, then send one out and have it fixied and vise versa. And are you running 4 hid projector set up? or are the high beams halogen?
rookie,
I would suggest that you speak with Larry Wu (littledevil) on the HIDplanet. He is capable of redoing your retro. He's in San Francisco and his work is awesome.

I would also take vicestan advice as to buying or borrowing someone headlight and put these on your car so you can drive around.
Don't rush into fixing the retrofit and get it done correctly so it will not happen again in the future.
Let us know if we can help.
Also, most people who does retrofitting uses JB weld to hold everything together. It looks as if some of the JB weld broke off and now it's not held together any longer.
I don't have an extra headlight but others may in So. Cal.

Thanks Corky...too bad he is a little too far for me to drive to. I figure if I'm going to have to ship it, I might as well ship it back to the person that did my lights. That way, I won't have to pay for the job (at least that's what I'm thinking).
I'm probably going to drive my car back home first and ship the lights back. That way I just have to borrow a car to drive to work.

I wonder if he use the oem reflectors to mount the projectors for the high beams. Call that guy up and have him fix it up for free and even pay for shipping because if they broke apart during shipping they stood no chance in real life driving.
