Default Pedal Position Sensor - question

I had my car diagnosed at the dealer today (McDermott) and they determined that the cause of my VSC On/OFf and Check Engine Light problem is the Pedal Position Sensor. They said that the codes and diagnosis indicated that there is an "open circuit" in the Pedal Position Sensor.

FYI, this is a '99 GS 300 we're talking about with 45,000 miles.

They quoted me $371 to get the sensor and put it in.

Carson said the part is $69 shipped.

How easy is this for a regular shop to install on my car without any problems occuring?

How much would you expect the shop to charge?

Can anyone show me where this piece is located (supposed to be near the throttle body).

For some time now, I have had a lack of power issue, where the car runs really sluggishly to get from 10 -50mph and has major major trouble getting over 85 (it also takes forever to even get to 80-85).

FYI, so far I have changed the MAF and TPS sensors and problem still exists. Do you all think that the Pedal Position Sensor will fix my problem?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Much Thanks in advance,
Ted

Ted,

I'm not sure if I've ever heard of a pedal position sensor. This is different from the throttle position sensor (TPS) or just another name for it?

I don;t think that this is a Throttle Position Sensor b/c I told them that I just changed the TPS very recently.

Does anyone know anything about a Pedal Position Sensor?

Ted, did you see this? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...6&goto=newpost

The tech had apparently repaired two other cars with similar symptoms. Anyway, the car was acting up when I took it in, and it's driving fine now with the new part. The invoice says that they replaced the "APP Sensor", and the part listed is a "PEDAL ASSY, ACCELERATOR". The part number appears to be 78010-30030. Lastly, they were never able to pull out any error codes.

Wish me luck. I'm hoping that this is it.

ChuckB:

Damn you are the man!

Yes that seems to be same problem I am having.

From what Jellybean said, it seems as though there just might be a thing called the pedal position sensor. AM I reading his post correctly?

Thanks much.

The part number listed in my post is correct. I looked it up in a parts website. Maybe "APP Sensor" stands for "Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor". Good luck.
