Default APP Sensor

Is it possible to have a faulty APP (Accelerator Pedal Position) sensor and not trigger the MIL or any codes?? I'm having symptoms like a faulty APP sensor on my 2002 GS300. Any input would be great!

What kind of symptoms. Are going into Limp Mode? I'm having problems with that right now as all.

I'm not going into limp mode but I get the hesitation off the line and at cruising speeds i can feel some jerking/bucking at low throttle. I also get horrible fuel consumption.

Have you tried cleaning your MAF sensor? When my pedal sensor was on it's way out, the only symptom I had was that the pedal would take more effort to keep the speed up, but it would go back to normal if I just took my foot off of it for a second or two.

I didn't have any hesitation or bucking though.

With certainty I can tell you codes may not be thrown with faulty APPS or TCM. I had it happen with both at different times. No codes, but the dreaded limp mode to point of almost causing me to get killed. I checked the sensors with a multi meter and narrowed it down each time to what it was. The TCM sensor hangs right above the manifold on a little bracket. It is exposed to a lot of heat and I'm sure that is causing failure over time. I have replaced 2 of those during the life of the car. It has beeing running like new the past year with zero issues. 140k on it. 2002 sports design GS300 Graphite Gray Pearl

Yeah that area does get really warm for some reason. Cant be good for the throttle control motor or the Apps sensor.

I've replaced the MAF with a new one from Lexus/Toyota. Seemed to run a bit better but not for long.. lol

Does this look like a normal reading to you guys?

Did you have to calibrate anything?

do that check on the Throttle control motor and the Throttle position sensor. The APPS seems within limits.

There is some great information in these 32 pages. Somewhere in there is a PDF attached that has all the Lexus specs on the 3 sensors mentioned. I learned a lot from it when I had issues.

Another thing. You do know Lexus will fix these issues for free now after the class action lawsuit. If they have not been replaced before, call Lexus and tell them your issues about acceleration problem and mention class action lawsuit. Some folks on here have had it done for free recently.

Thanks burny, I'll comb through these treads. I don't think you want her after I'm done with her LOL
