Default won't go above 2000 rpms !?

I have yet to poke around under the hood on this issue yet, wondering if there's shared experience.

I was on way home from work yesterday and I noticed car jerked a little under medium acceleration. Next stop light I paid more attention to it - and sure enough. My car won't rev above 2000 rpm. I pushed the auto tranny into neutral and same thing with pdal floored, I get vroomvroomvroom - as if the rev limiter was set to 2k.

Last night I left battery disconnected to see if this might affect things, but this AM - same thing.

I do not have a code reader handy, but my setup throws codes anyway. (Haltek e6k, MSD ignition).

Maybe this is characteristic behavior of TPS module failing....

Any thoughts?

(thanks in advance!!))

Default Same Thing

I had the same thing happen, and I had to replace something having to do with the 'drive by wire' system. I think they replaced my entire Throttle body as well. Either way, I took it to the dealership, and they charged me 550 to fix it.

Unfortunately for me, this happened in the fast lane of the freeway, so I had to navigate to the next exit and PUTTER to the dealership...

Hope this helps...

Never heard of this one - is your CEL on (and/or is it on normally)?

Don't read to much about GSs going into 'safe mode' or 'limp mode' but perhaps that is what yours is doing for some reason

I don't know too much about Lexus's -
But with Nissans, this sounds like a MAF problem. Car loses all power after 2k rpm's - almost like your engine shut off

Check (wiggle) the plug that goes into the MAF (should be by air filter)
That's if a GS has one. Let me do some research. There are a few tests you can perform. A couple off my head are:

1. check the maf plug
2. see if you can borrow someone elses MAF, swap and see if it corrects the problem.

?

The CEL always comes on after a couple of start ups after reset regardless of this 'limp mode' issue.

I plan to get my car to peter farrell's shop Friday fer some troubleshoot'age.

I will update the findings as it gets troubleshot in case anyone else runs into this.

The MAF is the first place I checked. It is very accessible (this car is turbo'ed). It seems clean and free of debris/oil, etc.

Funny you said NIssans lose power at 2k. It does seem like the car is doing it on purpose. As if it detects a fault so severe it caps the RPM to a low value to save the engine.

It is happening intermittently right now. It is not dependent on me restting the error codes, nor engine temp or any other such immediately obvious parallel

sounds like the car is in Safe mode... usually does that when there is a problem with an electronic mechanism that regulates fuel or air delivery (at least thats what causes Safe mode on VW's). The MAF ususally never did that, you would just have the MIL on, but then again, those were on VW's. The one car that went into safe mode when i was at the dealership, the problem was caused by one of the ECMs. in any event, the codes will reveal all...

update! car is behaving normally!

I took it to PF Supercars and Ray drove it around as his commuting car for a week and it's fine. I don't get it.

I picked it back up and he's right - the car's fine.

the spark and fuel delivery are handled through the haltek e6k. any cut off of ign or gas would be a decision made by the haltek. if it happens again, I will replace the trigger wheel pickup.
