Default K@N air filter

I just received my K@N drop in air filter, it tells me that i need to put some grease (it came with the filter) around the filter, is it save? i dont want to damage my engine or mess something up.
Now that i have it, i am a little skeptical about putting it in, please tell me that its completely save, thanks.

Eric

When I got my K&N drop in, the filter was pre-olied. I did not come with grease. So I just dropped it in.

i think he's talking about the grease that goes around the frame to ensure all air goes thru the filter - not around it.

I used the grease about 10K ago and no problems.

The filter is pre-oiled, but it says to put some kind of a grease around the edges of the filter so there is no air leaks.

thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that my car is a lexus gs300.

just don't use too much grease, just a thin layer around edge is all you need. We do the same thin for foam dirtbike filters.

The grease helps you to prevent dusts get in from the side, use it but not excessively!
