Wiper question - no, not that one!

I was out in the new ride ('01 GS430) yesterday, and used my wipers for the first time. When I did, I noticed that the driver side wiper did not go all the way to the pillar, but stopped well short of it. Leaving a section of dirty windshield just enough in my field of vision to drive me insane. I did a search, and found that someone back a while ago had the same problem, but the thread did not contain any resolution. Can anyone tell me why this is, or what I can do to correct it? The car has had some bodywork done, and I think may have had the windshield replaced. Could the wipers have been removed and replaced incorrectly?

I've read about the two positions for the wipers, and wonder if this may be part of the problem. I'm wondering if the wipers were in the winter position, and someone took them off and replaced them too low on the windshield. Can anyone link me to, or provide me with a picture of where the winter position should be, or the summer position? Seeing either one will let me know if mine are in the right spot, as mine appear to be half-way. They aren't well above the hood line, but they aren't totally below it either.

If this has been asked before, and I missed the thread, have your way with me, but please post the thread!

take a picture of your car standing near the passenger front fender and most of us can tell you if your wipers are in the winter position or not...

Wifes got the car now, but I will post pics as soon as she gets back. My thought is that they were set to the winter position, but that maybe someone took the wiper arms off, and replaced them lower, or slightly counter clockwise. This would keep them from reaching to the pillar, right?

Here is a picture. Red line is about where wiper goes to. Do the wipers look like they are in the winter or summer position, or in between?

Your wipers are definitely in the Summer position.

Yes, but also they aren't wiping as close to the A-Pillar as my '01 GS 430 does so it would appear something is out of whack. Mine cleans the windshield to about an inch from the A-Pillar.

The wipers are not going far enough. The driver's side wiper should run almost parallel to the A-pillar.

No noises or anything. Everything seems to work fine, except they just don't go far enough. I'll have to mess them today and see if I can't figure it out.

Wiper problem solved!!!!
My suspicion was correct. In case anyone else has the same problem, here is the cause and solution:

Cause: Windshield was replaced. In doing so, the person doing the replacement removed the arms while in the winter position. When finished, they replaced the arms as as if they were in the summer position. So while it appered that my wipers were in the summer position, they were actually in the winter position with the arms mounted incorrectly.

Solution: I just pulled the arms off and turned them clockwise on the posts so that they were in the winter position. Tightened them up, then "popped" them down into the summer position. Now they go all the way to the pillar, as they are supposed to.

Thanks to all.
