Default Adding Factory Navagation

I have a 99 GS400 and looking to upgrade to Factory Navagation. Does anyone have a idea at what the system would cost? Can I upgrade to the DVD version or do I have to go with the CD-Rom? Is anyone year better Navagation better than another? Thanks for your Input.... Giggzz

hmm.. not sure how much the actual unit would cost but its going to take some time to get the unit into the dash... are you planning on doing this at the dealer?

if you get the factory nav, you should be running the DVD version... i dont quite understand what you mean by CD-rom version but the factory nav (i believe) works with the DVD and no other method...

as for the version, you should get the latest one.. from what i've heard, its not any clearer or prettier but just has new roads and stuff that werent there before (like recently built)....

The 98-00 Nav is HD based.
The 01+ Nav is DVD based.

Letsride has installed the HD version into his 98 GS.
kyle3841 has installed the ML/Nav (DVD version) into his 01+ (can't remember the year )

Some have asked about installing the DVD version into the 98-00 GS but I don't recall a successful attempt. Sounds like NT2SHBBY is going to try it.

that's correct, kyle has the 01 gs430

and to be honest, i am not sure if it's worth it. first you need to get all the required units, and also all the required harness, that's going to be pretty pricey already. then unless you do it yourself, you will have to pay for all the labor to install it, and i am telling you, it's not going to be cheap... overall you will be better off just install something aftermarket units, or trade your car in for another one with nav. i am serious

If you're gonna have the dealer do the installation is gonna cost you an arm and a leg. I know how bad you want the factory navi. b/c i do too.. Thats one thing i regret not getting when i first bought my car new. Is very hard to find all the necessary parts you need to make the conversion. If i were you.. I would sell da car and get another one that already has the factory navi and M/L. Nowadays i'm seeing prices on the 2nd gen GS going for very low, since the 3rd gen is already out. I'm looking to go on this route, right now i'm just not sure yet.

If its 10K that not in my budget , maybe I will look at either trading mine in or sellng it privately. I seen a 2002 GS430 here in FL wtih 26,000 miles, Navi and the dealer was asking 39,998. I thought that was a little high. I'll have to do some research on it. Thanks for the info to all....

Get an Eclipse AVN-2454, Best aftermarket Navi unit out. It will give you that flush factory look IMO

Just my opinion, but I don't understand the rationale behind anyone selling their non-navi car or older navi equipped car to get one with a navi.

What is the reason why anyone would do that? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

A much better path to take is to install an aftermarket navigation system in your non-navi equipped car or to remove your HD based OEM navi and install an after market navi in your car. Much, much cheaper route than getting rid of your modded car or trying to upgrade your HD based navi to an OEM DVD based navi.

You can pick up one of the best aftermarket navigation systems on the market for less than $1400.00 shipped (brand new on ebay), and have it installed for under $800.00.

The model to get is the Pioneer AVIC-88DVD navigation system with the Pioneer AVD-6210 6.5 inch LCD monitor.

This is exactly what I plan to do for my non-navi equipped 99 GS400.
