I’m not sure if anyone has tried this, but from what I saw on Banana GS' website, it looks like it would be possible since he used the same AC control harness with the navi/non-navi setup.

Newbie here....
I may have missed it, but was anyone successful on the retrofit of the 01+ Nav on the 98-00 models? I just got a '98 GS400 (bone stock audio) and was wondering if it was even possible before I go on the scavenger hunt for the parts.

Here's a pic of my old 99 GS4's factory unit for comparison, and yes, I know the 2001+ NAV looks a lot nicer.

Henry & Phantom,
I make no effort to change your opinions, but I feel obligated to post an opposing view. I know both of you as personal friends, so everyone else take it easy, this is not a flame off.
From what you're saying, it appears the only set up that "looks" factory for you guys can ONLY be the factory set up. If you take non-Lexus owners who see my car for the first time, many have commented that they thought my system WAS factory.
In my sincere opinion, my set up doesn't look factory, it exceeds what the factory did. The styling of the factory screen would of been easy for me to copy. I just need to glue some square blocks of wood together to emulate the design. Where's the fun in that?
On the feature set side, the factory set up does not have widescreen viewing, higher resolution monitor, "no touch" screen ( I don't like fingerprints), no disruption of watching a movie because you need to adjust the AC controls on the same screen. In addition the Pioneer screen does offer on screen capability of CD/AM/FM/DVD and in addition video game, back up camera, XM satellite radio and now available, Pioneer just released a module for the I-pod display to show up on my screen using the existing IP bus system. Give Pioneer some credit for keeping this 2 year old install, up to date and future ready.
Maybe if I removed those features, went to a lower res 4:3 aspect ratio screen and less stylish faceplate you guys might like it. For me, I would never settle for the factory NAV, but that's just me.
Peace

but with all due respect, how i feel i how i feel. and ritsa also thinks the same way. maybe i am missing the word to describe the difference i don't know. and to be seriously, why would i need fun in getting a nav system in my car

about playing dvd, there is already a very nice aftermarket system that's plug and play to our nav units and you connect to dvd player, everything is integrated and you adjust stuff on the screen.
to me i LOVE the integrated look. this past weekend i was just at dealership playing with the dvd nav system on the new gs and the 2gs ML system. very nicely integrated. i don't really like the lcd climate control setup on my car now, i really prefer to see everything on the nav screen.
and for one, i dont' like to have remote controls in my car as well. so touch screen is never a problem for me. plus, with the added module, you can have voice recognition with the ML nav unit as well

dunno, guess i am stubborn

Oh, and as far as Ritsa feeling the same way, well I can ask INDGOGRL for her opinion too!

Don't even think about it.
I will tell you something kind of related to this the next time I see you .
Just remind me. I'm sure you won't forget.
Im very impressed with your setup and was wondering if you had the Factory Nakamichi prior to your Nav aftermarket upgrade?
Also, did you bypass the factory amp? please share about your setup and the overall sound before and after install of the Nav.
Thanks

I had the factory Pioneer system as shown below.
The complete article is here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=flush+monitor
Most of your questions may have been answered there and you can always post new questions on that thread as well.
Basically it's a fully aftermarket system. I do not utilize any of the factory electronics.
At the time of the install, less than 2 years ago, there was nothing comparable to it.
Today you have the indash units from Eclipse, Kenwood and Pioneer, which basically have a similar look and feature capability so you don't really want to try and do my old set up now a days.
It's just not worth it.
