Ive been looking at getting a used GS300 for a while now. I came across a certified pre-owned 2000 GS300 with 37,000 miles for only $21K. The problem is I live in RI and the car is in IL so taking it for a test drive and checking it out isn't something i can do with my day off. But im thinking that if its CPO that I might not have to worry about buying a lemon and could probably buy it without checking it out in person. The CPO warranty is for 3 years or the next 63K miles and is a lexus backed warranty. Does this seem rational to anyone or am I just being ridiculous?
Mechanically the car is probably perfect. Cosmetically, however... Only a personal inspection will reveal stains and discoloration in the interior, paint scratches, pitted glass, door dents, etc. I also would never buy a used car sight unseen.
I don't think I could buy a car w/out driving it and seeing it in person.
BTW-Buy a GS4 instead, unless you don't like being pushed back into your seat
Agree. Also, don't lnow about RI, but Illinois requires front plates so there will be a bracket on the front bumper. If RI requires front plates, no big deal. Also, was car from the Chicago area?
Chicago and suburbs use LOTS of SALT in the winter. Need to be aware of potential rust.

I too would have to agree. Speaking from experience, I purchased my GS4 online (off of ebay) and while the carfax was clean, a lot things were disclosed prior to the sale (a cigaretter burn on the ceiling, paint discoloration/oxidation on the front bumper, etc). If I could do it again, I'd either ask for more pictures, try to get a third part inspection, or wait it out and find something more local.
i would hae to agree as well, never get a car without seeing it and driving it in person. that's important. even it's a cpo, that doean't mean the car is perfect. there migth still scratches or some other damages on the car that you dont' know of
