Does anyone know how much the stock 16" GS wheel weigh? The HRE 540's weigh 21 - 22 pds as i was told. I want to make sure the rims i buy be lighter than stock.

Also does anyone know how much the Volk TE - 37 wheels weigh? These are my second choice rims. Size 18 by 8 1/2 " . I guess i should just email Volk on that one.

Thanks in advance!

Hi 1niceride,

This is the information I have:

18 x 8.0 HRE 540s weigh 23 pounds

18 x 8.5 TE37s weigh 16 pounds . If you want even lighter than this, only option would be the TE37 MAG, limited production and $1200 a piece! (savings: about 1.5 lbs). Check out this link for info on the TE37s: http://www.mackinindustries.com/raysinfo.html

The stock 17's weigh 23 lbs. I'd say the stock 16" weigh around 20 lbs.

Keep in mind that tire weight would also contribute to the overall savings. Check the tire manufacturers' spec sheets. I'd recommend the Toyos T1-S because they're the lightest on the market.

So the HRE 's are heavier than my stock wheels. I was 75 % sure on those rims but it has now dropped to a 65 / 35 race for the TE-37 .

Time to go look at all my old car magazines again to look at rims.

Finally made up my mind. Volk TE-37 all the way now.
I am going to go with the staggered look. 18 x 8 1/2 " in front and 18 x 10 " in the rear . I already know what tires i want. Bridgestone S0-3 's . Couple of more questions.

1. What size tires to keep stock diameter ?
2. Anybody know of any website or place i can get a deal on the wheels?

Thanks in advance.

Hi 1niceride,

Good choice, I haven't thought on any other wheel since I got my TE37s !!

The 18" TE37 is not available in 10" width. For the rears Volk recommends 9.5 width for the Aristo. There's a 10.5 but I think it would be too wide.

On the tires, Volk recommends 235/40 and 265/35 tires for the 8.5 and 9.5 inch wide wheels . Most tire manufacturers also consider these tire sizes as the optimum for 8.5" and 9.5" wide 18" rims. Also, you'd get a negligible diameter variation in relation to the stock 17s.

I got the wheels at a good price from David at GTAutosports, I waited no more than a week for them because they were in stock at the time (January 2001). Silver and bronze colors, as well as the aluminum center caps are optional, so you may add that to the total cost.

either 235/265 or 245/275 with 18*8.5+9.5 should be fine.

try CORY at 1866 731-1691. several members ordered from him at very attractive prices. but they said the wait is a bit long. he also quoted me good prices on a set of VOLK F-0 wheels.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm not worried about the delay in getting them . I just want to have them in by July.

I plan on getting 2 set of rims. These will be my sport rims . The 16 lb. wheel weight won me over. Next summer i will get 20" HRE 's as my bling bling wheels.

GS4power - any pics of your car? I looked in the gallery but didn't see it if it was there. Also are you running the staggered look as i plan too?

1niceride,

just tell cory when you want therims, and ask to see if he can have them for you by then to earn you business. when i said delay, i meant 2-4 weeks, not 2 months wait. these wheels should be in stock in CAL importer's warehouse.

Miguel,

never get tired of looking at your GS . you must have stong ear to stand the CF borlas

Thanks Will I appreciate that

About the CF Borlas, I can tell you I wanted to get rid of them the first day I installed them, the noise was UNBEARABLE!!!

But, after the custom hangers (not the stiff cheapo Borla ones) AND the SRT intake (very surprising), the sound got MUCH lower and very pleasant. That's why I've kept them.
