I need to change my negative battery cable. How do I do it? Do I need to get 2 or 4 gauge wire? Which is better? Please Help!

I already changed the clamp and the corrosion keeps coming back! So, a friend of mine said it could be in the battery cable itself.

Lower the number, thicker the cable (can carry more current). So #2 would be more desireable, but what is the required gauge? ... I don't know.

Corrosion happens at the point of junction of dissimilar metals exposed to air.

Suggestion: Try getting a clamp made out of lead (to mate with lead of the post). Next get a contraption where the wire (copper) is molded inside the lead. .ie avoid the setup where you clamp down the wire and go for the wire +clamp sold as one piece.

I apply a thin coating of grease on the exposed part of the terminal and have not had any corrosion problem. [the inside of the clamp should be clean and dry to make a resistance free contact with the post.
