Default First post - three questions

Hi All:

Had a 540/6 which was great but stupidly expensive to run, sold that and bought a Cobra (cheap fun!), but new baby dictates something more practical. Sold the Cobra and bought a 2000 GS4, 53K miles, Millenium silver with Nak and painted 17s. Had the rear windows tinted, and put a K&N panel filter in the slightly modified air box. Really like it so far.

I've learned a lot about these cars from researching the forums. Went to the meet last weekend and got a few more ideas. What I haven't found out is:

- Has anyone modified the driver's seat for more headroom? I'm 6' 2" and headroom is REALLY tight.

- Is it possible to defeat the DRLs without having the high beam indicator stay on?

- Has anyone replaced the stock Y-pipe and front resonator with a Flowmaster Y? Way smoother transition.

Thanks!

Pete

welcome to the club pete.

- have u tried lowering the seat ? press down on the lower part of the controll buttons. the reason i ask is because im 6'1 and i have no problems.

-DRL, i am not sure about the year but i know there was a break between years. i think 2000 falls under the year where there is a metal bar in the drl relay box in the engine bay. you can remove the metal bar that runs across it and that should turn off the DRLs.

good luck.

I agree with joshoowa above, you're not a HUGE guy and should be able to adjust the seat to make it confortable with you.

As for your second question regarding the DRLs, yes i believe that has been done and i read about it a while back....dont remember exactly where though....search the electronics forum perhaps.

Welcome to CL!

Welcome to CL. The 540/6spd is a fav of mine, too bad they eat $$$ for maintenance. Your GS should be much easier on the wallet, but CL has a tendency to drain funds with upgrade/mod possibilities.

As for the diy site, it's banana gs's site -->linky. I didn't see a drl defeat mod there, but you'll find lots of other good info. Try the search for drl defeat and similar topics. A quick search brought me a few results that looked like they may help you. Here's my quick search results on that topic.

On the headroom issue, I am 6' 2"/3" and I occasionally brush the headliner in my gs, but only when my seat is very upright back position. I have heard nothing about lowering seating position beyone what the stock controls can do for the gs. Good luck on that one.

Once again, welcome aboard

Welcome...6'2"...seating should not be a problem...just lower it and don't sit like grandma (vertical) against the steering wheel...i'm 6'4" and have no issues at all...maybe you have short arms

On the other questions, they have all be asked and researched...use the search button and you will find more than adequate answers to your questions (and probably a lot more).

Welcome to Clublexus. I've driven both cars (GS and 540/6) both are awesome. I'm 6'5, 235 and both cars fit me well. Maybe a racing seat would give you more headroom.

I'm 6'3 and have no problems. Either you have real short legs for your height (tall torso) or you have the seat jacked up high like others have mentioned, or some combination. I find the GS headroom really great.

Pass.

They make one for a GS!?!?

Oh my! Dejavu! Back in my autocrossing days in Michigan, I had to remove most of my interior to save weight save for a cf racing bucket. When I had to go for autocross competition in pennsylvania, I had a cooler full of beer in exchange for passenger seat and in the park grounds, I had this chick sit on the cooler and her head sticking out of the sunroof and we drove around the park like that ....

....man good ole days...

Thanks for all the replies (except the milk crate post hijack ).

Yes, I have the seat adjusted all the way down I think my torso is average for my height; I have a 34" inseam. I like to sit with the seatback pretty upright, 'cause I have a bad back. I'll figure something out. I've had Recaros and Flofits in other cars, but I don't want to ruin the aesthetics of the stock interior; it's too nice.

I read bananags' mods, and all the others I could find, regarding DRLs. Nothing definitve. I sent a PM to a guy who says he's defeated them in his sig, but haven't heard back.

The Flowmaster Y is a universal 2-into-1 that's very well done. They're available in a few different inlet/outlet sizes. I've used them before with great success, but I was wondering what the downside to removing the front resonator is, if there is one.
