Has anyone installed the gas type shocks that are used to prop the hood up? Most luxury cars seem to have these in the trunk too, so I was curious.

that's some awesome thinking there!

To improve the sound of the trunk close just put some sound dampening material in your trunk, either on the bottom (wheel well is a good place to target since it's an echo chamber basically), or on the underside of the lid (yes, makes the lid heavier which might not be good given the spring situation this thread is about!), or both.

Yup I drilled a hole in the exact same place. One of the first things I did when I bought the car 3 years ago when I nearly took off a finger . Too many mod's so little time to post .

Struts would be nice, but you have to have a very strong mounting points in the trunk and on the trunk arm, plus finding the right length and the strut pressure, all have to be factored in. You could find yourself trying a bunch of lengths and pressures before getting it right. I am doing this exact mod on the wifes IS, BTW and the front hood already has it done, since IS's come with yucky hood props

I also would be interested in gas shocks for the trunk. With my system, the only thing vibrating now is those friggin rods used for the trunk lid.

Why can't you just wrap them in something (brown bread, dynamat, etc. or even just household insulation or even saran wrap)?

Tried that, the center support where the 2 rods rest in that plastic piece will not hold a "wrapped" rod. Until I can figure out how to port my 2 Solobaric L7's up through the rear deck I have to deal with it. In the future I will most likely swap them out for a pair of 12's that I can build a ported enclosure that won't require 4-5 cu ft.

Are the rods supposed to be in the center support? I never really paid attention to them before but this weekend when i was hawling stuff out of my trunk, i noticed that the two intersecting bars are not in the center support grooves. What does that center support thing do when i put the bars in? Should i put them into the grooves?

Currently the two bars are resting just above the center support but not "in it".

i also feel like my trunk tension is weak sauce, but i'm assuming i have the "stronger" tension bars as stock since my car came with the Sport Design spoiler.

thanks in advance,

jason
