Default Trunk Problems - Trunk closes too easily.

If im parked on any kind of incline at all - it smokes me in the head every time I try to get something out of it! My driveway is pretty steep - so getting anything out of it is a PITA. Anyone have any mods to make it tighter or even install a hydrolic lift arm of some kind? I bought a nice fricken lexus and the damn trunk is a POS heh!

TIA

Do you have a spoiler on it? If so,see if Lexus has a different part number the for trunk "springs". They are the long bars that go side to side to give that tension to hold up the trunk. If you or a previous owner installed a spoiler on the car and did not replace the springs with a higher tension rate, that's exactly what's gonna happen. I just recenetly got a 99 GS300 with a spoiler (factory style) and mine does the same thing. According to the window sticker that came with the car when it was new (found it in the glove box)the dealer actually installed it. I was actually gonna look into this as well. The bars may even have a sticker on them with a part #,verify it with the dealer if there are different ones. Good luck

You can adjust the tension bars to make it prop up better. There's 3 settings for it. If you take the gray covers off in the trunk you can see it.

Appreciate that!! I know they are under some high tension,so whoever does this be careful!! A tool like this should be used.

you don't have one???
Not sure in that case....have the dealer do it for you..couldn't be THAT much...or could it
I work at a dealer(not Lexus)and my techs have them so i'll just use one of theirs. Maybe someone else has an idea of what could be used. Good luck

It's not that hard, you can do it by yourself. You just pull it out of the hole, and move it into another hole. Same on the opposite side. I don't really see how a tool would help anyway.

Chrispy is correct I just did it to mine and i did make a slight difference. I moved it one slot at a time. I ended up going into the lowest slot. Thanks!!
Maybe i should clarify my earlier post. I just assumed (wrong on my part) that what i had done in the past would work the same in this situation. That tool,or one very similar to it,is used for Honda/Acura aplications. In that case it's a MUST that the tool be used. It's under a lot of stress and there is no way you can adjust/remove the springs by hand....not unless you wanna lose one(hand that is)

Sorry if i mislead anyone

Very simple mod to adjust tension for your trunk...pop off the plastic tabs...then pull back the trunk liners...you will see 2 horizontal bars...at the end of the bars...its held in place by plates with 3 notched setting....play around with those...move them around. GL.
