Does the door ajar light up in the instrument panel?

If not, the switch (which is part of the door latching/locking mechanism) is bad. This seems like a common problem in early GS models. Since most of such vehicles are now out of warrant, the owners have to fork out the $$$ for a manufacturing defect.

Do a search and you are bound to have multiple hits.

Mine never worked from day one , with less than 6 miles on odometer
Nothing wore out, they simply did not work. Fotunately for me, I caught it before the warranty expired.

Per my previous post, the whole latching/locking mechanism needs to be replaced in each door.

To this day, I dont know if there is a trunk ajar indicator in GS? Maybe another sending unit is bad

not sure where the light switch is for the rear doors, but I know for a fact that the trunk light switch is built into the trunk lock.

Try there first....I would shoot some silicone lubricant/WD40 on the door look mechanisms.

It is part of the door latch/lock.... the thing that latches on to the exposed "U" hook in the door jamb. This part is inside the door and is accessable by taking the door apart.

PHML: Does anthing (warning light) light up in the instrument panel if the trunk is open?
