I’ve had a couple problems with my car lately and we have narrowed it down to the ecu.
my question is how compatible is my car with other ecus.
the model number of my Lexus is
89661-3A440
however I am not getting any show up available to buy.
i am seeing however ones with different last 5 digits such as
3A420 and 3A422.
if anyone’s got any wisdom to share anything’s appreciated.
thanks.
When making a thread please state the year and model of your car, and your location. 89661-3A440 is for a RHD spec car that's the only thing I can tell you without having more information.

yes sorry it’s a 1998 Lexus gs300, which is a rhd as I am in Australia.
It will be very hard to find out the exact differences, I doubt anyone will know. It might work, it might not.
You could also look into having the ECU you already have repaired (leaky capacitors?)
I just had a locksmith come out because of a key recognition fault which wouldn’t let me start my so he made some new transponder chips, checked the ignition coil etc and anyway he rang someone up and they said it’s probly the ecu because nothing else worked.
only thing now is I did some reason and there’s some brown sludge in one of the ecu connectors, so I’m not sure if it’s a leaky capacitor in the ecu or (what I’ve read recently) a fuel senser leaking oil and it seeping through the harness.
excuse me if some of what I say doesn’t make sense I’m not too familiar with car components.
Toyota Australia is a market unto its own which means parts lookup is sketchy. After some digging around 89661-3A440 likes to change up to 89661-3A550 and that shows as compatible with 89661-3A420. Not definitive I'm half guessing.

I have a 2002 GS3 2JZ-GE made in Japan for US market. No problems yet with my ECU (knock on wood). Can anyone recommend a trusted repair source for ECU refresh for future reference? Thanks!
