this is the second time in about 10 months that my car has done this I was in my school parking lot at cerritos college looking for parking when suddenly my steering wheel stiffened up, I then noticed it had turned off . has this happend to any one lately? I know this probably has to do w/ the low idle problem but this sucks
this shouldnt happen to lexus. I remember when this happened when I first got my car and thought I had purchased a lemon, but I then learned that I wasnt the only one. but this still sucks!
I have been reading threads like this and its beginning to scare me. I have a 99 GS400 also but I don't experiance this problem. What is your current mileage? I don't have a factory warranty no more so this is beginning to scare me...

I too have been keeping a close eye on this because of talk on CL. My 99 GS4 has 106k miles...idles at 500 rpm with A/C off...idles at 750 rpm with A/C on. With the cold weather I've been driving mostly now with A/C off and I'm watching the tachometer at every stop...no problems. I only have L-tuned mods and K&N drop-in air filter.
LEXISM - do you have intake mods? I remember a thread about this problem and I think they said it might be related to the mass-air-flow (MAF) sensor and the level of moisture in the air...dunno. Ask a lexus mechanic.

while driving!!! Luckily no cars behind so had to put it in neutral and QUICKLY restart
the engine. After the 3rd stall, I pulled over and open the hood. The filter came loose!
After tightening it up, no problem again. Not sure if this is the same prob as LEXISM,
but words to others to make sure your filters are secure and check them once in a
while!
I haven't seem a lose in gas milage with A/C on...getting aroung 25.5 mpg highway. Soooo much torque from the V8 with the A/C on or off you'll hardly notice the difference.
crazygs - Man, you must of been fuming after that. Good thing no accident happened. That really bites, so I'm curious of what came loose?

Fumin!!!
and scared the craps out of me!!!The part where the beginning of the whole pipe attached to the engine came loose.
Must've gotten hot at some time and maybe loosened the rubber fittings. So I had
to retighten it. Make sure everyone do check engine bay inspection
and pokin' around once in a while!!!
