it has happened to me one time...
I think the Idle needs to be adjusted...
JacobT mentioned the only way to do this is to take it to the dealer.

what is an appropriate idle speed?

I just picked up a new GS430 this past January and feel like my idle speed is kind of low. when my car is in park or neutral, my idle speed is around 700 but when it is in drive it drops to 500. Is that normal?

thanks

marketbully,

Those rpm readings are normal. 700 with no load on the engine and a drop to 500 from the load when you engage a gear.

My car died on me once. I got in one morning and it was totally dead. Got a jump start but every light on the dash was dead...no speedometer, no tach, nada.

The dealer had it for 3 days. They replaced the main computer under warranty.

Since then no problems, but installing the new computer reset my odometer to 0. So now it shows 13k miles when the car has 32k.

got my car back today with the 10,000 mile service which i didn't pay only pay for oil change and tires rotated instead of the $150.00 or so they wanted for the service which "guys" look in your maintance book they don't do anything expect the oil/tire rotation aways, the rest is check and that it...as for the car dying out they told me that ofcourse the tech. couldn't find anything wrong at the time and will keep me posted if this becomes a recall. what they told me to do is either drive witht the power switch on/ or the ac switch should be on...some issue with lexus low emmision that why the gs400 only is idel is set lower. don't really know much about this area if someone has had the same problem please advise? sorry so long

Angry Engine Die Out

I have the same problem too, it happened sometimes, one time the engine die out suddenly on freeway,no power on the steering wheel. It was noon time, the freeway was full of traffic , its scare hell out of me, i was lucky the one behind me didn't hit my car.
The dealer check for me and didn't find out any problem on it.
Is it about the TC and intake made this happened??
I have the TC and intake installed..

Edgarg4- very lucky nothing happend to you, the tech. guy of course gave me a song and dance about unable to detect problem of course my question is can't they just turn up the idel a bit, instead of having the car a/c blower on at all times, or driving with the power switch on now all the time....i just think that it is stupid for a car company to want to have lower emmission for the gs4 but lower enough to cause the car to die out is stupid planning in my eyes...seem they are willing to take the risk of cars dying out like mine and others on this forum inorder to maintain there low emmission standard. just my 2 cent

Default engine dies on decel

mention throttle-off shock to dealer. have never seen this condition in gs though have seen in 95-97 LS400.
New engine management computer with spark plugs was the fix for the LS.

That happened to me a couple times. I talked to one of the mechanics at the Lexus dealership and he told me that it happens to a lot of people. It may be the idle. It happened to me in the middle of traffic while my windows were rolled down with the radio up. Didn't even feel the car cut-off until traffic started moving and I was still sitting there pumping the gas and getting horns blown at me. That was embarassing. Had to shut it off and turn it back on. It hasn't happened since. Just me feedback, hope that helps.

are these cars equipped with throttle dampening valves?

when you take your foot off the throttle and close the throttle plates, the combustion chambers get flooded with fuel for a split second and can cause the car to stall. This is more evident in forced induction cars but can occur on naturally aspirated vehicles, too.

anyway, if the car is equipped with the dampening valve, as it ages it can allow the throttle plate to close quicker than it should (it's suppose to make the throttle plate close slower)

If the problem is caused by the TPS (Throtle Position Sensor), which is the most common cause, you can get it replaced at the dealer. Although it is not a recall, Lexus does enough of them be able to replace it for free. After it malfunctions, the car will either stall, or idle erratically and not respond to the gas pedal until it is restarted. After you start the car, the "Trac" and the "Check Engine" lights will come on and stay on. They usually go away after several minutes, but sometimes they will remain on until you reset it.
