Exclamation Timing Help

Hello All! I have a 93 Lexus GS 300 with 228,000 miles. I recently replaced head gasket kit. I made the mistake of removing timing belt and cam gears without marking anything. I put car back together and it will not start. Timing was set when i installed belt and crank pulley. After trying to start the car after not installing distributor correctly, timing marks are off. Exhaust cam gear is lined up. Intake cam gear is off to right about 1-2 teeth. Crank is off from 0 to the right about 15-20 degrees. If i reset the timing by lining up the marks correctly and then reinstall distributor with what ever marks i missed before, will i be on the right track to starting car? Been doing this job for a month and i appreciate any and all help! Thank you all in advance.
Also! A dumb question but i figure ill ask anyways. If i cheat by pulling tentioner off to loosen belt can i turn the intake cam back to the left the 1-2 teeth ist off, and with belt loose, turn crank until #1 piston is TDC and crank lined up on mark, then tighten and of course correct distributor? Thanks again!
