By removing all power sources for a couple of minutes, the computer in the car resets itself. Kinda like shutting down your computer for a second when it starts running slow. I've done it with every vehicle I've owned "just 'cause."
Pianoman72, there's no need to reset your ECU unless...
-your car idles funny
-you are doing upgrades to the system
-you've upgraded your air intake
stuff like that.
But if your car runs fine and you don't have any problems,
then your computer is in good shape and does not need
to be reset.
But on the other hand, just like Rico's Revenge pointed out,
it's good to do it once in a while just as good practice.
Regards.
Would it be good to reset the ecu after driving very hard. Driving hard in ways such as flooring it alot and deciding that I would no longer floor it so I think that by resetting the ecu would be good for the car since I will start to drive the car easy again..... (I know its an incomplete sentence, but my point was made)
Thanks

It doesn't matter what you do to your car before you reset the computer because the computer is going to "forget" when you reset it , that's why it doesn't matter what you do before your computer forgot what you did before you reset it, and therefore when you reset your computer it will forget whatever it remembered when you drove it hard before you reset it because it forgets. (get my point? j/k.

I have been driving the car really hard the past 2 weeks. Seems like I floor it almost at every stoplight. Basically I am wanting to drive easy now and no longer will floor it when I don't have to. Would I save gas by resetting the ecu or would that not make a difference at all? thanks Eric!
I've heard that some people reset their computer every few months. They say that their cars feel a little faster. I don't know whtat it will do, but it can't hurt. Your car will just take some time to figure out the optimum settings, so your gas mileage may go down for a while..
