New Shifter & ? about OD button
OK i was successful in building a prototype shifter for the first gen car. here's a pix - plug and play.

this has an OD on/off button action using the selector button.
same as what we do in the Porsche 928 G9 shifter is have a switch off the top button that kicks down the transmission. So it is momentary - OD will only be off when you have your thumb on the button.
i personally am not crazy about click-on click off for the OD and i think just a momentary would be fine. downside is that "ODOFF" comes up briefly when you move the lever.
how about everyone else?? push down= OD off OK?

yes it is a switch that when connected, OD=off
I have been driving around the past couple of days with the shifter and like it.
There are not many aftermarket automatic shifters out there since each car tends to have its own mechanism. They never fit right either.
So for the porsche 928 we build/modify to suit.
the aristo is a rectangular shaft which doesn't fit anything I know of.
PS: The wood pces were re-surfaced in Japan by the PO. There is a process called hydrocladding that will put a new surface to plastic parts. I think that is what was done here. I does look good. We have a dash kit material called "mustard" that is pretty close to this so I am going to get a kit made in that stuff as well as some new pces designed.... takes about 4-6 weeks & will post here.

keepin' the revs for 2K will cost you a lot of fuel and engine wear.
i can make the switch a maintained one, might have to give it an extra click to take th od off (or on) depending on your parking spot.
i just finished a stainless steel or aluminum laser cut shifter plate, should have those in a couple of weeks (i ordered a doz) - got a mock up on there and it looks cool.

i'll bet there is nothing out there that will fit, otherwise we'd see it on somebody's car. The problem is the rectangular shifter tube, you can't lathe that, no aftermarket stock parts for it would have to be a custom molded part ($$) most cars are round tubes so that is what they shoot for.
all of the aftermarket shifters i've seen are junk too. that is why we built a shifter for the porsche 928. The aristo was a tough one - but with CNC(computer machine bit control) i'm now rockin' proto#1 wood/carbon on the aristo. I think anything that hits your hands, ears, or eyes in a car is worth having something that looks nice and feels good.
